Resolution Overview
AGENDA DATE: November 1, 2010
BACKGROUND: This vehicle is being purchased to replace the Ford Crown
Victoria Police Interceptor (CVPI) and all of the vehicles installed equipment that
was destroyed when a large tree was uprooted during a storm and fell on it.
After the 2011 model year the CVPI will no longer be manufactured. The
equipment that is installed in the CVPI cannot be retrofitted to one of the other
police package vehicles (Dodge Charger, Ford Taurus, and Chevrolet Impala or
Tahoe). The recommendation to purchase the Chevy Tahoe is based upon the
following:
• With the discontinuance of the CVPI the Tahoe is becoming the vehicle of
choice for many police departments. Its durability and roominess are well
suited to the demands of police work.
• It is in keeping with the Department's goal of equipping the command staff
with SUVs to accommodate the equipment that is carried.
• It allows for an evaluation of this vehicle as to the appropriateness of future
purchases as a replacement to the CVPI.
BUDGETARY IMPACT: Total cost of this purchase is $37,500 off of the MARC Bid
(vehicle and all equipment). Insurance settlement for the destroyed vehicle was
$16,700. New money is $20,800.
