AN ORDINANCE DEFINIfdG SEXUAL HARASSMENT, A PROCEDURE FOR
REPORTING INCIDENTS OF HARASSMENT, INVESTIGATION OF AND
DISCIPLINE RESULTING FROM SEXUAL HARASSMENT.
WHEREAS, this ordinance is intended to help prevent sexual
harassment by alerting employees and supervisors to their
rights and responsibilities under the law.
WHEP.EAS, this ordinance is intended to provide employees
with a means of resolving what they believe to be harassment.
WHEREFORE, BE IT' ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF `PHE
CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOiJRI AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: 1. Sexual harassment includes, but is not
limited to unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual
favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature
when:
(a) submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or
implicitly a term or conduct of an individual's employment;
(b) submission to or rejection of such conduct by an
individual is used as the basis for employment decisions
affecting such individual; or
(c) such conduct has a purpose or effect of unreasonably
interfering with an individual's work performance or
creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive caorking
environment.
2. Any employee who feels they have been subject to
harassment of any kind should report such incident to their
supervisor or commanding chief, if the employee is unable to
report the incident to the supervisor or commanding chief
because that person is somehow involved in the complaint, the
employee can report the incident directly to the mayor.
3. Upon reporting this incident by the employee, names
will be kept confidential as much as possible.
4. An investigation will be made and appropriate ar_tion
taken, if necessary.
5. The City of Riverside considers harassment to be a
major offense which can result in the discipline or discharge
of the offender.
