HomeMy WebLinkAbout1058 Dolan-New Hire BILL NO. 2010-006 ORDINANCE NO. I��� AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, TO EMPLOY BRIAN J. DOLAN AS A FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND ESTABLISHING A SALARY AND START DATE FOR SUCH EMPLOYEE WHEREAS, City Code Section 110.070 provides for the appointment of employees of the City by the City Administrator with approval of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen; and WHEREAS, City Code Section 110.140 provides for the establishment of the salary of non- elected employees of the City by ordinance; and WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen find it is in the best interest of the City to approve the appointment of Brian J Dolan as a Police Officer in the Department of Public Safety as provided herein; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISS�URI, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1— HIRING OF EMPL�YEE. Brian J Dolan is hereby employed as a Full-Time Police Officer in the Department of Public Safety. SECTION 2— STARTING SALARY. The starting salary for this position shall be set at $38,000.00 per year and the employee shall be placed on a one-year work test period. The salary shall thereafter be adjusted according to the annual budget and the personnel policies and procedures of the City as may be adopted from time to time. SECTION 3- REPEAL OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed. SECTION 4— SEVERABILITY CLAUSE. The provisions of this ordinance are severable and if any provision hereof is declared invalid, unconstitutional or unenforceable, such determination shall not affect the validity of the remainder of this ordinance. SECTION 5— EFFECTNE DATE. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect as of March ' 21, 2011. This position resulted from the transfer of Patrolman lessie Winson to the Criminal Investigations Unit, after the retirement of Detective Pete Edlund. Subsequently this vacant position is available with current budget funds. Police officers must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors, the ability to exercise sottnd judgment in evaluating sitttations and in making decisions and to dcmoustrate good work ethics. Great care is taken to ensure selected candidates meet Departmcnt standards and possess the ability for Srowth. We believe that we have found that person in Brian J. Dolan. Mr. Dolan is currently employed with our Department as a reserve officer and has been in that capacity since September 7, 2010. 11e has done an outstanding job for us, is well liked by his peers and more than meets the standards as set forth by the City as an employee. Mr. Dolan is also currently employed by the Platte Ciry Police Department as a reserve police officer and the Platte County School District as a School I Resource Officer. Mr. Dolan is anxious to be a part of the DPS team and he understands the importance of the position he is applying for.
