HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-55 - Amendments to Chapter 19 of the Municipal CodeBILL N0. ~~-55 ORDINANCE CIO. 87-55 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 19, CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, ENTITLED "TRAFFIC CODE" BY ENACTING IN ADDITION THERETO A NEW SECTION 19.925 ENTITLED "USE OF CHILD PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEMS REQUIRED", REQUIRICIG THE USE OF CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS FOR CHILDREN UCIDER THE AGE OF FOUR (4) YEARS, INCLUDING A PENALTY PROVISION. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That Chapter 19 of the Code of General Ordinances of Riverside, Missouri entitled "Traffic Code" is hereby amended by enacting a new Section 19.925 to read as follows: Section 19.925 Use of Child Passenger Restraint Systems Required. A. Every person residing in this state transporting a child under the age of four (4) years residing in this state shall be responsible, when transporting such child in a motor vehicle operated by that person on the streets or highways of this City, for providing for the protection of such child. ~4hen traveling in the front seat of a motor vehicle, the child shall be protected by a child passenger restraint system approved by the Department of Public Safety of the State of Missouri. When traveling in the rear seat of a motor vehicle, the child shall be protected by either a child passenger restraint system approved by the Department of Public Safety of the State of Missouri or the vehicle's seat belt. When the number of child passengers exceeds the number of available passenger positions, and all passenger positions are in use, remaining children shall be transported in the rear seat of the motor vehicle. The provisions of this Section shall not apply to motor vehicles registered in a State other than Missouri or to a temporary substitute vehicle. B. Any person who violates this section upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not more than Twenty-Five Dollars ($25.00) and Court costs.
