2010
Bicycle Friendly Terri Dwyer sent Meredith Hauck information about becoming a bicycle friendly
Community Overview community. Meredith reported to the Board that Mike Duffy, Director of Community
Development, was aware of this initiative and is working through the Planning and Zoning
Commission to take elements of the initiative into consideration for city projects. Hauck
said that she would keep the Board updated on the initiative.
Renner Brenner Park Fry and Associates provided a quote to replace the current shelter house, tear down the
Improvements gazebo and replace it with a new shelter house, and make upgrades to the grills and
trashcans in the park. Hauck gave the Board a spreadsheet (attached) with the choices they
needed to make in order to receive a final quote for services.
The Park Board decided to move forward with the following options:
- Large Shelter House: New Pad plus a four column shelter
Small Shelter House: Oregon Shelter (no tongue and groove roof)
32 gallon trashcans
The Park Board would also like the shelter houses to have green roofs with black poles.
Mayor Rose requested staff investigate adding recycling bins in the park as well. Hauck will
also double check the number of picnic tables needed for both shelter houses.
The additional items that still need to be completed in Renner Brenner include:
- Repairs to sidewalk under bridge ($8,000) and a light in the same location ($3,000)
- New lighting — need to work with Public Safety to make sure cameras can see
- New Signage — entry and historical signs
Hauck explained that the Park Board original FY 2011 budget included $100,000 for Renner
Brenner Park Improvements and $100,000 for EH Young Park Improvements. Staff is
estimating finishing Renner Brenner Park will cost $150,000. The Park Board agreed to this
change in budget and staff will present it at the next Board of Aldermen meeting.
Other Discussion Terri Dwyer made the following comments:
- She shared a compliment with the Public Works department that she heard at the
Boss Cross event at EH Young Park — a visitor to the City commented on the
cleanliness of the bathrooms in the park.
She asked if the City had taken over the Briarcliff Waterfall yet. Tom Wooddell
reported we hadn't. Dwyer said she was disappointed to see the algae growing on
it and hoped the City could find a way to keep that under control once they took
ownership.
She asked Public Works to investigate if it was possible to turn in the linear fountain
pink on honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, like what was done in North
Kansas City. Wooddell said he would contact Briarcliff.
Mayor Rose commented that there was a pile of dirt next to where the trashcan was
installed on the linear trail. Wooddell will follow up.
Julie Rule made the following comments:
Platte County will host Trunk or Treat on October 29.
- The County is recruiting a stream team.
- The County commented that is nice to see Riverside's participation in the Northland
Regional Chamber's Parks and Recreation Committee
Adjournment — 6:57 p.m. Rule made a motion to adjourn and Leader seconded. All present voted in favor. The next
meeting will be held November 3, 2010.
