TOURISM COMMISSION

The Tourism Commission for the City of Riverside, Missouri, met in the Board of Aldermen Conference
Room at City Hall, 2950 NW Vivion Road, Riverside, Missouri on April 11, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.
Chair Jason Rule called the meeting to order. Answering roll call were Jason Rule, Deana Winter, Jerry
Pietsch, and Dirk van der Linde. Also present was Meredith Hauck, Director of Community Relations
(recorder), Morgan Johnson — Trozzolo Communications, and representing Riverfest Development
Corporation — Cindi Rice, Holly Phillips and Mayor Kathy Rose.
Motion to approve Commissioner Pietsch made a motion to approve the minutes of March 14,
minutes of March 14, 2011 and Commissioner Rule seconded the motion. All voted in favor.
2011 Motion carried.
Tourism Fund Update Meredith Hauck provided an update of the Tourism Fund. There is
$100,000 in the reserve fund and $209,189 in the fund balance. Other
Events (45% of the fund) has $1,053 remaining, City Events (35% of the
fund) has $3,000 remaining and Advertising (20% of the fund) has $7,906
remaining.
FY 2011 -2012 Tourism Hauck introduced Morgan Johnson with Trozzolo Communications and led
Marketing Campaign the board through a brainstorming exercise on how they would like to
Discussion spend the marketing portion of their budget next year.
The following ideas were discussed:
- Marketing trails and parks
- Create a tourism brochure
- Reach out to conference /meeting planners, especially at Argosy
- Utilize Google Ad words
- Reach out to realtors
- Marketing tourism offerings via blogs
Meredith and Morgan will bring a proposed plan back to the Tourism
Commission at a future meeting for consideration.
Riverfest Update Riverfest Development Corporation representative Cindi Rice (Riverside
Chamber), Holly Phillips (City of Riverside) and Mayor Kathy Rose provided a
brief history of Riverfest and gave an update on the 2011 event planning.
All agreed that Riverfest and the City's festival BLAST needed to be
differentiated to have the most impact.
Adjournment — 7:05 p.m. Commissioner Rule made a motion to adjourn and Commissioner Winter
seconded. All present voted in favor.
