AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, TO EMPLOY JEFF
HENDRIX AS A FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER/EMT IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
AND ESTABLISHING A SALARY AND START DATE FOR SUCH EMPLOYEE
WHEREAS, City Code Section 110.070 provides for the appointment of employees of the
City by the City Administrator with approval of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen; and
WHEREAS, City Code Section 110.140 provides for the establishment of the salary of non-
elected employees of the City by ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen find it is in the best interest of the City to approve the
appointment of Jeff Hendrix as a Firefighter/EMT in the Department of Public Safety as provided
herein; I
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY
OF RIVERSIDE, M15SOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1— HIRING OF EMPLOYEE. Jeff Hendrix is hereby employed as a Full-Time
FirefighterlEMT in the Department of Public Safety.
SECTION 2— STARTING SALARY. The starting salary for this position shall be set at
$38,250 per year and the employee shall be placed on a one-year work test period. The salary
shall thereafter be adjusted according to the annual budget and the personnel policies and
procedures of the City as may be adopted from time to time.
SECTION 3- REPEAL OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT. All ordinances or parts of
ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4— SEVERABILITY CLAUSE. The provisions of this ordinance are severable and if any
provision hereof is declared invalid, unconstitutional or unenforceable, such determination shall not affect
the validity of the remainder of this ordinance.
SECTION 5— EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect as of
September 21, 2011.
BE IT REMEMBERED that the above was read two times by heading only, passed and
approved by a majority of the Board of Aldermen and APPROVED by the Mayor of the City of Riverside,
Missouri, this 20' day of September, 2011.

Ordinance Overview

Overview
The Department of Public Safety Fire Division is filling an opening for a full- time
Firefighter/EMT. This opening occurred this past spring when Firefighter Erin Gardner
resigned to pursue other interests.
Firefighters must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; the
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates,
peers and supervisors; the ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations
and in making decisions and to demonstrate good work ethics. Great care is taken to
ensure selected candidates meet Department standards and possess the ability for
grow�th. - we have found that in Jeff Hendrix
Mr. Hendrix has worked part-time for our department as a Firefighter / EMT since April
2o1i. In addition he has worked since z000 for the West Platte Fire Protection District
Weston Mo. as a firefighter / EMT. Mr. Hendrix has numerous certifications in the fire
service.
Mr. Hendrix is anxious to be a part of our team and he understands the importance of
the position he is applied for. The starting pay for Mr. Hendrix has been set at $38,250
per year.
