RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI
Monday, September 12. 2011
6:00 p.m.
The Tourism Commission for the City of Riverside, Missouri, met in the Board of Aldermen Conference
Room at City Hall, 2950 NW Vivion Road, Riverside, Missouri on September 12, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.
Chair Jason Rule called the meeting to order. Answering roll call was Jason Rule and Deana Winter. Also
present was Meredith Hauck, Director of Community Relations (recorder).
Motion to approve A quorum was not present so a vote was not taken. These minutes will be
minutes of August 8, placed on the next meeting's agenda for approval.
2011
Tourism Fund Update Hauck provided the Commission with a copy of the FY12 budget and the
updated planned expenditures based on the grant approvals made during
the August 8 meeting.
General Tourism Commissioner Rule presented his ideas on what Riverside can do to create
Discussion more tourism opportunities within the community, including better
engagement of a volunteers corps, providing additional marketing dollars to
events that are already taking place within Riverside, better promoting of
the business community, and improving the communities connections and
interactions with Park Hill South.
Summer Festival 2012 Hauck presented two options for the Commissioners to consider for the
Discussion City's Summer Festival in 2012.
The first option was to capitalize on the Girls on the Run 5K, which will be at
EH Young Park on May 19. The City would host an all day Summer Kick Off
event in the City center on the same day, similar to BLAST, but without the
fireworks emphasis.
The second option was to create a series of mini summer events from May
through August. Event ideas include: block party, amateur BBQ contest,
and a fireworks display.
Hauck will present on these concepts again at the next meeting when a
quorum is present.
Adjournment — 7:45 p.m. Commission was adjourned.
