HomeMy WebLinkAbout1091 Employ Benjamin Scott Cassell BILL NO. 2011-039 ORDINANCE NO. _�v AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, TO EMPLOY BENJAMIN SCOTT CASSELL AS A FULL-TIME COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY AND ESTABLISHING A SALARY AND START DATE FOR SUCH EMPLOYEE WHEREAS, City Code Section 110.070 provides for the appointment of employees of the City by the City Administrator with approval of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen; and WHEREAS, City Code Section 110.140 provides for the establishment of the salary of non- elected employees of the City by ordinance; and WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen find it is in the best interest of the City to approve the appointment of Benjamin Scott Cassell as a Communications Specialist in the Communications Unit of the Department of Public Safety as provided herein; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1— HIRING OF EMPLOYEE. Benjamin Scott Cassell is hereby employed as a Full-Time Communications Specialist in the Communications Unit of the Department of Public Safety. SECTION 2— STARTING SALARY. The starting salary for this position shall be set at $31,720.00 per year and the employee shall be placed on a one-year work test period. The salary shall thereafter be adjusted according to the annual budget and the personnel policies and procedures of the City as may be adopted from time to time. SECTION 3- REPEAL OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed. SECTION 4— SEVERABILITY CLAUSE. The provisions of this ordinance are severable and if any provision hereof is declared invalid, unconstitutional or unenforceable, such determination shall not affect the validity of the remainder of this ordinance. SECTION 5— EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect as of December 14, 2011. Mr. Cassell is currently working part-time in the Communications Unit in our 560 hour Communications Training Program where favorable ratings are being documented. In addition to the training that Mr. Cassell is currently receiving he has three years working with the Clay and Taney County Sheriff departments as a dispatcher. He is also experienced working under stressful conditions and able to multitask. BUDGETARY IMPACT: No additional impact to the budget. This position is to replace the opening created when Samantha Thurman separated from the department on December 13, 2011. His starting salary will be $31,720. Mr. Cassell's starting date will be December 14, 2011.
