Parks and Trails Update Wooddell provided the Board with a status update for all of the parks and trails. The Board and staff had questions about who owns Briarcliff Park. Wooddell wondered if handicap parking is necessary there and will follow up on that. Hauck has people interested in renting the park for events and is still not taking formal reservations since it is unclear whether or not the City owns the property. Mayor Rose commented that there is a problem with geese in the area. Wooddell also provided a cost summary for the work done at EH Young Park after the 2011 flood. The City spent approximately $40,000 on the park and expects to receive about $20,000 back from FEMA. Wooddell will bring a proposal to the Parks Board to use river rock near the front entrance instead of mulch. Rule inquired about the status of the Christmas Tree. Wooddell said there is a bad connection near the top of the tree and Public Works is meeting with a representative from the manufacturer in February to get that section replaced. Carlson commented that he would like to see more Christmas decorations along City corridors next year. Other Updates Rule updated the Board on recent happenings with Platte County Parks: Saturday, June 9 is National Trails Day Platte County Commissions have kept the hold on parks projects for 2012 that were funded out of the parks tax renewal because of recent events with finding funding for the public safety radio system in the county. Rule indicated that many people were not aware that work wasn't moving forward as planned and encouraged the Board members to contact their commissioner about this issue. Platte County is still waiting on an MOU from Riverside to move forward on the park at 52 street. In this MOU, Platte County and Kansas City would be responsible for the construction of this park, and Riverside would maintain it. Hauck said she would follow up with Mike Duffy to determine the status of the document. Rule also said that the County was looking for more citizen feedback on what should go in the park. Rule will give Hauck the information on how people can provide their feedback once she gets it from the County. Adjournment — 7:15 p.m. Dwyer made a motion to adjourn and Parrott seconded. All present voted in favor.
