Motion carried. 12, 2011 Tourism Fund Update Hauck provided the Commission with a copy of the FY12 budget and a copy of the 2011 Project Overview, which provided a summary of all projects funded during the calendar year 2011 and the dollars spent per attendee. Summer Festival Update The Board of Aldermen has elected to move forward with a summer event series instead of a single summer event like BLAST. Hauck is working on planning this series and will bring back details to the Commission in February. She took an informal poll of the Board to confirm that they wanted to move forward with a $60,000 budget for the entire project. Girls on the Run 5K Hauck updated the Board of the Girls on the Run 5K, which is scheduled for May 19 in Riverside. Girls on the Run of Johnson County and Girls on the Run Serving Kansas City, Missouri are currently in the process of merging their councils. If they elect to move forward with a combined 5K in the spring, this will mean approximately 3,000 runners at the event. Hauck updated the budget estimate to $5,000 from the marketing budget. The Commission agreed with this budget figure. Hauck will bring back a formal request in February once more details are available about the route and the event. Trail Signage Hauck presented three options for trail signs to the Commission. The Commissioners elected to move forward with a 24 "x36" angled sign. Each sign will cost approximately $2,500, installed. In the project's first phase, it is anticipated that six signs will be installed. Deana Winter made a motion to approve $20,000 for this project from the marketing budget. Dirk van der Linde seconded the motion. All commissioners voted in favor. Motion carried. Commissioner Pietsch added that he thought this project was very worthwhile and was a creative way to meet the goals of the Tourism Commission. Alderman Thatcher agreed and added that it gave people a reason to come to Riverside, and provided the City with a unique way to market the trail system. He added that he thought the Commission should consider working with Briarcliff to put signs in the Horizons area as it is being developed. The Commission agreed and said it would explore funding that project out of its fund balance in the next budget year. Adjournment — 6:35 p.m. Commission was adjourned. There will be no meeting in Janaury.
