The minutes of the park board meeting on August 1, 2006, were approved. Thatcher made the motion to approve and Hackenberg seconded. All voted in favor. Riverfest Report Rose told the board that the event scheduled for September 15 and 16 was ready to go. She showed them the marketing materials and she asked for volunteers for several events: SK Run - 4 volunteers; Flying High Children's Games - 3-4 volunteers; Children's "Build on It" Craft - 6-8 volunteers; Children's Beauty Contest - 4. There will be a train for the children to ride from noon to 5:00 on Saturday and there will be pony rides. There will be 9 ponies and they will be used sequentially 3 at a time to prevent them from being overworked. They will be led and not attached to a wheel/carousel setup. Community Center WSKF Architects is putting together a master plan for the civic campus. Rose will appoint a committee to work with the architects consisting of 2 members of the Parks Board, 2 or 3 BOA members, 1 Senior citizen and 1 member from one of Rardeen's classes. Rose also suggested asking a high school student to have input about teen issues. The goals for WSKF are to look at existing programs and users, plan for future changing demographics and the future of the buildings on the civic campus, i.e., the community center, the old public safety building and the annex. Some of the areas of interest to the Parks Board are a weight room, aerobics room, storage, and more pool amenities. Trails Report Miles reported that plans for the Line Creek Trail are going well and that their talks with Charlie Dietrich, Army Corps of Engineers, have been fiuitful. The Corps will allow no planting on the levee but said the grant money given to the city by Platte County Parks and Rec can be used for plantings from Renner Brenner Park to Line Creek. The Missouri Riverfront Trail agreements are nearing approval as well and should be expected any day. Rule reported on the trails meeting with KCMG regarding plans to link our Missouri Riverfront Trail with their riverfront park via NKC. The next meeting of the group is on Page 1 September 20.
