Brent Miles reviewed the approved Parks Department budget for 2006-2007. Among the
budget items discussed were:
Line Creek Trail -the budget was increased from its projection in the previous fiscal
year to $523,000.
Community Center -The Board of Aldermen has expressed some interest in adding on
to the existing Community Center. There is $20,000 in the budget for WRSK to conduct
a needs assessment and an initial conceptual design. Weight rooms and meeting rooms
maybe included in the plan. A pool improvement was discussed and might include a
spray ground. Budget for FY 2006-2007 includes $30,000 to paint the pool.
Parks Signage - $3500 has been budgeted for Signage improvements in the parks. The
parks board stressed the need for consistency. Citywide Signage has been budgeted at
$300,000.
Baseball Field -Julie Rule said that the initial intent of the ball field was for baseball.
She would like to revisit the issue because at this time the field is not up to baseball
standards. The Park Board directed Public Works to bring the field up to baseball
standards. Alderman Linda Jones needs information to get what the Park Board wants re:
the baseball field. Brent reported on the BOA decision to not spend more money on the
ball field.
A Seniors Softball Tournament is scheduled to the field on July 22, 2006.
Lori Rardeen gave her parks report. It is important to recover costs for parks events. She
is calculating expenses to do that. She also said there is a need for an employee in the
parks.
Rardeen reported on plans for the 2°d Annual Riverside City and Chamber of Commerce
Golf Tournament. Eighteen (18) teams are signed up to play at $100 per person.
