SPECIAL MEETING
BOARD OF ALDERMEN
RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI
Wednesday, November6, 2013
6:00 p.m.
The Board of Aldermen for the City of Riverside, Missouri, met in special session in the North
Kansas City Hospital Board Room, North Kansas City, Missouri, on Wednesday, November 6,
2013.
Mayor Kathy Rose and Mayor Stielow called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. Those in
attendance were Mayor Kathy Rose, Alderman Brad Cope, Art Homer, Ron Super, Seth
DeRose, Aaron Thatcher and Mike Fuller.
Also present were City Administrator Greg Mills, City Clerk Robin Littrell, Community
Development Director Mike Duffy, Public Works Director Tom Wooddell, Administration
Director Meredith Hauck, City Engineer Travis Hoover, and City Planner Jackie Carlson.
Present from City of North Kansas City were Mayor Don Stielow, Councilmembers: Mark
Conarroe, Bear Kistler, Bill Sanders, David Silvers, Jeff Young, Rick Stewart, Fred Steffen,
and Tom Farr. Staff: City Administrator Matt Shatto, Police Chief Steve Beamer,
Communications Utility Director Byron McDaniel, Community Development Director Sara
Copeland, Parks & Recreation Director Dave Schnoebelen, and Fire Chief Gary Fisher.
Welcome was given by Mayors of North Kansas City and Riverside. All those in attendance
stood and introduced themselves.
North Kansas City Community Development Director Sara Copeland showed a PowerPoint
slide and discussed the streetcar project.
North Kansas City Parks & Recreation Director Dave Schnoebelen reported on the Dog Park
project and reviewed handouts give to attendees.
Mayor Kathy Rose of Riverside led a discussion on "regionalism" and taking advantage of
partnership opportunities. Reports were given by City Administrator Greg Mills regarding joint
efforts of Northland police and fire departments such as; Northland Officer Involved Shooting
Team and SWAT team training along with shared equipment. Aldermen Brad Cope and
Aaron Thatcher reported advantages and usefulness of the Leadership Northland opportunity.
Administration Director Meredith Hauck noted the importance of the citizen surveys. She also
listed programs for our residents through community service contracts, YMCA, and partnering
opportunities with our school district. Hauck and Public Works Director Tom Wooddell gave
an overview of the solid waste services and special events for recycling and shredding.
Mayor Rose announced that Riverside now has mattress recycling.
The sharing of information through social media, newsletters, and newspapers was discussed
by both cities. Mayor Rose also had discussion topics regarding education, transportation,
and trials. Both Mayors mentioned the commonalities that our two cities share.

Alderman Art Homer announced that North Kansas City Historical Society is an active
organization and welcomed anyone interested to view their website or visit.
The idea of cross - advertising or cross - marketing events from one neighboring city website to
another was suggested as a way to share information to make everyone's events more
successful.
Community Development Director Mike Duffy and City Planner Jackie Carlson reported on the
new Blight Removal and Reinvestment Program for Riverside along with the importance of
following the Master Plan.
MOTION TO ADJOURN Councilman Conarroe of North Kansas City moved to adjourn the
meeting at 7:01 p.m., second by Alderman Super of Riverside.
The meeting was adjourned by unanimous vote.
