The cities of Riverside and Parkville have joined together to host the 3rd annual Northland Recycling Extravaganza. This is a free event and is open to everyone — not just residents of our communities. The goal of the Northland Recycling Extravaganza is to help people get rid of those items that are traditionally hard to recycle or dispose of by providing a one-stop drop off location. There is free collection for all items except for console -style Ns ($15 for glass -front/ tube -style and $25 for wooden console/DLF-style — plasma and LCD TVs are free). Help Us Spread theWord! The cities of Riverside and Parkville are hosting their 4' annual Northland Recycling Extravaganza on Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to I p.m, The event features a variety of vendors to help the community recycle or upcycle just about everything for free. "We are so excited to offer this event again. Last year, we diverted more than I I tons of waste from landfills and we hope to divert even more this year. This is a great way to clean out your garage and help the environment at the same time," Parkville Alderman Kendall Welch said. The Northland Recycling Extravaganza was honored as the 2013 Green Event by the Mid-America Regional Council's (MARC) Solid Waste Management District. This award recognizes a special event that promotes sustainable practices in the Kansas City Metro area. The event also received grant funding to help grow in 2014 from the MARC Solid Waste Management District and Missouri Department of Natural Resources. "In order to be successful with sustainability, you have to make it easy. This event allows you to load up your car, come to one location, and dispose of everything in a green way. It doesn't get much easier than that," Riverside Mayor Kathy Rose said. The Recycling Extravaganza will be at Pursell Construction, 6305 NW Riverpark Drive, Riverside, Mo. (off 9 Highway in between Parkville and Riverside) and is open to the public. Items that will be collected include: automobile tires (limit 4 per car, no rims), car and ni-cad batteries, furniture, household items, usable residential building materials, clothing, electronics ($25 fee for DLP and Wooden Console TVs), iron, oil and antifreeze (no paint will be accepted), prescription drugs, hardback and paperback books and textbooks, eyeglasses and sun glasses, bicycles and bicycle accessories in any condition, tennis balls, and unusable athletic shoes. There will also be free paper shredding on site (4 box limit per car) and a place to donate items for the homeless (clothing, towels and washcloths, and travel size toiletries). Contact Lori Boji at 741-4172 for more information on participating, Clean Up Days The Riverside Public Works Department will host Clean Up Days April 28 - May 3 and May 5 -May 10. Residents can drop off items from 8 a,m. to 4 p.m. each day. Tires, batteries, refrigerators, air conditioners, oil, paint, and any other household hazardous waste will not be accepted. Friday, May 2 and Friday, May 30. On these days, any yard waste left at the curb will be collected with your usual trash pick up, Remember all leaves must be placed in leaf bags and twigs must be bundled.
