HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984-04-17cT.' ^ REGULAR MEETING OF BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI APRIL 17, 1984 ~ A regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen of the City ~" of Riverside, Missouri, was held in the City Hall on April 17, 1984, at 7:30 p.m. On a roll call, aldermen Karr, Best, Peeler, Wedua and Brenner were present, Gordy absent this portion of meeting and said meeting was called to order by Mayor Holmes. It was decided to dispense with the reading of the Minutes of April 10, 1984. Robert Bernard, representing Joe Taylor, Shawnee Mission Disposal, P. O. Box 3274, Shawnee Mission, Ks. presented applica- tion to do business in Riverside. He said he has places of business where they leave their containers and will pick them up every Monday and Thursday. Said application was approved subject to the payment of the fee. Elmer Brown, 321 Woodland Road, inquired as to the repairing of Woodland Road in the area of his house and 341, 342 and 343. He said this area is in a hazardous condition and he also said the curbing is broken down. He asked that the area be policed as people are speeding through. The matter of repair- ing the street was discussed and was told that this street had been on the agenda for repair and also the water flow problem; , t7hat our City;;~ngineers have researched, discussed and studied the problem and their answer to correcting it was quite extensive. The Mayor and Board asked Mr. Brown asked if he would be willing to be t. in a benefit district for this street, whereby all the people on the street would be assessed the cost of repairing same, and he said he would be willing to pay his share of the expenses. The Road Committee will study this problem and will report back to the Mayor and Board. The following bids were received on $500,000: Bank of Riverside - $100,000 - 6 mos. 9.80% $100,000 - 1 yr. 10.12°~ $200,000 - 6 mos. 9.80% $200,000 - i yr. 10.12% Mercantile Bank - $100,000 - 90 days, 10.31% K.C. Bank & Trust - $300,000 - 1 year, 10.75% Westport Bank - $300,000, 90 days, 9.65% $300,000 - 1 yr., 10.50% $200,000 - 90 days, 9.40% $200,000 - 1 yr. 10.28'/ Commerce Bank - $300,000 - 1 yr. 9.875% ~' ~. ._ Reg. Meeting Page 2, April 17, 1984 Karr moved that Bill No. 84-14 being bill accepting the re- ~~ commendation of the Finance Committee in accepting the bids of Kansas City Bank & Trust Company for the sum of $300,000 for one year at 10.75°~ and the Westport Bank for $200,000 for one year at 10.25% interest, and that same be placed on its first reading, seconded by Best, the roll was called and votes were as follows: Karr, Best, Peeler, Wedua and Brenner voted aye; Gordy absent; said bill was accordingly read. Wedua moved that Bill No. 84-14 be placed on its second reading, seconded by Brenner, the roll was called and votes were as follows: Karr, Best, Peeler, Wedua and Brenner voted aye; Gordy absent; said bill was accordingly read. Karr moved that Bill No. 84-14 be placed on its third reading and upon passage of same become Ordinancae NO. 84- 14, seconded by Best, the roll was called and votes were as follows: Karr, Best, Peeler, Wedua and Brenner voted aye; Gordy absent; said bill was accordingly read, attached hereto and made a part hereof, approved by Mayor Holmes and became Ordinance NO. 84-14. Gordy moved that Bill NO. 84-15 be placed on its second reading, seconded by Karr, the roll was called and votes were as follows: Karr, Gordy, Best,. Peeler, Wedua and Brenner voted aye; said bill was accordingly read: Wedua moved that Bill No. 84-15 be placed on its third reading and upon passage of same become Ordinance NO. 84-15, seconded by Gordy, the roll was called and votes were as follows: Karr, Gordy, Best, Peeler, Wedua and Brenner voted aye; said bill was accordingly read, attached hereto and made a part hereof; ap- proved by Mayor Y.olmes and became Ordinance No. 84-15. Jim DeMarrs spoke to the Mayor and Board regarding differ- ent types of retirements for the employees. Mr. DeMarrs thought that due to the amount to be invested by the City and the employees it would be to the advantage of everyone involved if we could have a representative of a bank to come to explain to us what they have in the way of a retirement which we have in mind. Mr. Witt said he would contact a bank and have someone talk to the Mayor and Board at the next meeting concerning this Retirement matter. ~-,~ .~ Reg. Meeting Page 3, April 17, 1984 ~ Peeler said that the Missouri State Highway are going to ~ replace the bridge on N.W. Gateway; the will raise it approximately three feet and they plan to start in the fall and will be completed by the end of the summer of 1985. It was reported that there was another earth slide on on Northwood Road. This will be handled and there is a place in the City for the dirt. Chief Wingo said he has located a wood chipper and it would probably cost about X1650.00 for the time we would need it. This matter was discussed and Chief Wingo will see what it will cost to purchase our own Chipper and report back to the iviayor and Board. City Clerk Betty Burch said that Roger Porter requested permission to have a banner at his palce of business for a special sale for the week April 23 through 30. This was okayed by the Mayor and Board. The Committee for Revenue Sharing is to meet. It was announced that Judge Whittmeyer is having a train- ing school on Planning and Zoning on April 24, May 1, 15 and 22 and would like to be advised by April 16 who will be attending. A letter from Naomi Burdiss, President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Platte County Lodge 18, dated March 15, 1984, ~-- was read.
