See the email and USACE response letter allowing limited removal of pipe within the levee projected slopes. Below are sheet specific comments. Sheet 5 1. Typical Levee Section. The riverward side of the levee excavation slope (perpendicular to the levee slope) should be revised to 2H:1V. 2. Typical Levee Section. Show excavation cut starting 1’-0” from edge of Intercon Drive. This will essentially reduce the portion of pipe removed to that perpendicular to the levee. 3. General Notes. Add a note stating that Contractor shall maintain full access to Intercon Drive at all times during construction. 4. General Notes. Add a note requiring Riverside Quindaro Levee District Inspector to verify grouting of pipe at removal limits. 5. General Notes. Add a note stating the pipe ends at the removal limits shall be encased in a 1-ft thick impervious plug or bentonite grout. Sheet 6 1. Revise the excavation limits shown. See comments for sheet 5. 2. Add a note that the existing 8-in PVC pipeline disturbed by excavations shall be replaced and existing drainage to Burlington Creek shall be maintained. The plans should be revised and re-submitted to the Levee District for review to verify comments have been addressed . Re-submittal will not require USACE review. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Also, the Levee District anticipates an emergency repair to the Q1 crossing in the near future. Q1 is the rolling gate directly south of the waterline abandonment area. We will need to coordinate construction schedules between these two projects. Do you have an estimated construction start date? Thanks, Jason Jason D. From: Michael.McMillion@amwater.com [mailto:Michael.McMillion@amwater.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2013 2:18 PM To: Jason Davis Subject: Updated Plan Sheets for Water Main Removal in RQBLD Levee Jason, We had the RQBLD levee at Intercon Dr. surveyed to help determine the limits of excavation for the removal of the abandoned 12" water main crossing the levee structure. I updated the plan sheets that were previously reviewed & approved by you & added plan sheet 6 to include the recent survey. These plan sheets are attached below. Please review these & let me know if these plans will be acceptable for use in removing the main in the levee. I have been preparing a bid packet which will describe the logistics for the proposed excavation. I will follow up with this document in a future email. I tried to keep the previously reviewed plan sheets as close to the same as the last reviewed plans as possible. I left the specification text the same but I did change a few things based on the info from the survey. Some notes on what had been changed on the previously reviewed plan sheets: - Removed the scale on plan sheets 3 & 4 - Updated the location of the levee toe on plan sheets 3 & 4 based on the survey information on plan sheet 6 - Updated the appx. excavation limits on plan sheets 3 & 4 based on the survey information on plan sheet 6 Notes for the levee survey, plan sheet 6: - Previous water main depth investigations found the main appx. 6' deep to top of pipe. In some locaitons it was found to be shallower but 6' deep was near the average depth. - I am expecting the exvation to be appx. 8' deep. With the excavation slopes being 1V:1.5H I expect the width to be 12' on either side of the main - The location of the 10" area drain was surveyed. The drain pipe runs parallel with Intercon Dr. I took a look at this drain, it looks to be PVC, appx. 8" in diameter, appx. 1' deep. I am not certain of the extent of the drain pipe but I assume it runs from the railroad to Burlington Creek. I was not able to find either end of the pipe. - Please let me know if you would like any language added to the plan sheet for the replacement of this drain.
