Board of Aldermen of City of Riverside, Missouri
August 23, 2005
A special meeting of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Riverside, Missouri, was held in the
City Hall, of Riverside, Missouri, on August 23, 2005 at 7:30 p.m.
Those in attendance were Mayor Betty Burch, Aldermen Looker,Legaazd, Super, and Beard and
Jones. Alderman Darata arrived later.
Also present were, David Blackburn, City Administrator, Chief Greg Mills, Brent Miles, Planning,
Zoning and Community Development Coordinator and John McClelland, City Attorney's office.
Visitor Comments Gloria Hickman, 416 NW Woodland said she is a long time resident here,
and votes here. She said fireworks are dangerous.
Mrs. Hickman mentioned the services performed here in the city by citizens.
There was more than one person sandbagging during the flood and Pride and
Progress has done planting and picked up trash.
John Blogin, 8224 N. Bradford, Kansas City, Missouri and fireworks
participant said he has lived in the area for sixty-one years. He stated the
accident rates previously quoted were nil to none as faz as he was concerned.
Zeke Young- Red-X owner said he has lived here for twenty-five yeazs and
during fireworks season, 200-250 new customers come into the city. He
employees 50-100 employees and 151ive in the city. At Christmas, he gives
all employees a bonus based on fireworks sales. He is willing to "iron out"
some issues and come together.
Mayor Burch recommended a committee be formed between the
retailers/wholesalers and concerned citizens to meet at the Community Center
on Wednesday's starting August 31S` at 7:30 p.m and to come to a conclusion
on the fireworks issue by October 1, 2005.
Alderman Darata arrived at 8:15 p.m.
Motion for Closed Alderman Looker moved that the meeting go into closed session, pursuant to
Session at 8:15 p.m RSMO 620.021(1) Legal and 610.021(2) Real Estate issues, seconded by
Alderman Jones, and the vote was:
Aye: Alderman Beard, Darata, Super, Looker, Jones and Legaard.
Motion Carries.
Motion for Open Alderman Super moved that the meeting go into open session at 9:01 p.m.,
Session at 9:01 p.m. seconded by Alderman Beazd, and the vote was:
Aye: Alderman Super, Beazd, Jones, Looker, Legaazd and Darata.
Motion Carnes.
It was mentioned to have the City Engineer investigate to have the potholes
repaired at the bottom of NW Woodland Road.
Adjournment By unanimous decision, the meeting adjourned at 9:01 p.m
