R—2017-083 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF AN AUTO LEVELING SYSTEM AND AWNING FOR THE 1972 BLUEBIRD COMMAND BUS FROM TRANSWEST TRUCK TRAILER RV, BELTON MISSOURI FOR THE RIVERSIDE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR SUCH PURPOSES WHEREAS, the Police Department has a need for an auto leveling system and an awning for the 1972 Bluebird Command Bus that will help with stabilization and operations when the command bus is needed for an event; and WHEREAS, the auto leveling system and the awning for the 1972 Bluebird Command Bus is to be purchased and installed by Transwest Truck Trailer RV in Belton, Missouri who specializes in this equipment and is experienced with working on aged vehicles. Services on this age of vehicle was declined by many RV vendors, this purchase is regarded as a sole source vendor and is authorized under the City of Riverside City Code; and WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen find it is in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Riverside to authorize and approve the purchase and installation of the auto leveling system and awning by Transwest Truck Trailer RV, Belton, Missouri for the Command Bus for the Riverside Police Department; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: THAT, the purchase and installation of the auto leveling system and the awning for the 1972 Bluebird Command Bus by Transwest Truck Trailer RV, Belton, Missouri for the Riverside Police Department, in an amount not to exceed $11,200.00 as attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference is hereby approved; and FURTHER THAT the Police Chief and/or the City Administrator, or their designees, are hereby authorized to execute all documents necessary or incidental to this transaction and the City Clerk is authorized to attest thereto. Rose p in'Kindaid, Oty.Clerk �e Riverside Police Department Ordinance Overview AGENDA DATE: October 31, 2017 BACKGROUND: This request is for the purchase of an automatic leveling system and an awning for the command bus. The request was approved in the 2017- 2018 budget. The auto leveling system is designed to stabilize the command bus and to level it when setting up for operations. The awning will be attached to the passenger side of the bus to protect from the elements when there are additional people present or if some of the operations are occurring on the exterior of the bus. The work will be performed by Transwest RV who specializes in this equipment and is experienced with working on vehicles that are aged such as ours. They are also the facility that has been servicing our vehicle for the last two years. Contact was made with several other RV type vendors, and they declined to work on this unit because of age and type. Their focus is strictly RV type vehicles and not buses. The next option is to go out of state to a manufacturer of command type vehicles and receive quotes from them. However, I do not believe that is efficient or cost effective.
