SURPLUS LIST
89 RADIOS AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT
MEMORANDUM
Date: May 15, 2020
TO: Brian Koral, City Administrator
FROM: Chris Skinrood, Police Chief
SUBJECT: Disposal of Surplus Equipment
Mr. Koral:
In the 2019-2020 fiscal budget, replacement portable and mobile radio
equipment were approved. That project has been completed and, by
doing so, has left us a relatively large amount of used radios. Versus
merely disposing of the equipment, I would like to sell the equipment
to a company called Sunny Communications. They are the only
company in the United States who deals in buying and selling used
radio equipment. We spoke to our Motorola vendor about a trade-in
or if they were interested in purchasing or how we could dispose of the
equipment. They said they do not deal with used equipment, and the
best place would be Sunny Communications. We have used this
company previously to sell radios, and the experience was positive. We
reached out to them and, after reviewing our equipment list, offered us
$8,000 to buy the radios from us. The offer also includes shipping
expenses paid by Sunny Communication.
I would like authorization to take this to the Board of Alderman to seek
approval for the sale of this equipment.
