RIVERSIDE PARKS BOARD MEETING
MINUTES
March 18, 2020
6:00 p.m.
The Riverside Parks Board held a conference call. Those in attendance were: Noel Bennion, LaNette Ingram,
and Deana Winter.
Call to Order This meeting did not have a quorum of members. No action items were taken.
Updates to items from the 3/5/2020 meeting are shown in green.
E.H. Young Riverfront Park opening is tentatively scheduled for May 9 th from 2-5pm, with the ribbon
Park – Brainstorm cutting at 2:15pm.
Budget
Park Opening
Playground vendor has offered to provide a Food Truck for this event. Possibly hot dogs
and hamburgers. Noel will reach out to playground company about Northmoor options -
Adelitas and LC’s Hamburgers.
Balloon Artist - $40/hr
Face painting - $65/hr
Dunk Tank?
Noel estimates that we could find $500-$1000 for the event.
Locations/Activities
Ribbon Cutting - Central concrete circle. Encourage people attending the RC to park in
the new parking lot between the dog park and the Bell Tower.
Dog Park - dog vendors here
Playground - balloons and face painting at new shelter by playground. Rock painting in
this vicinity too. Shelter might be too crowded. Provide tents instead?
Pickleball - Pickleball programmer to do introductory lessons.
Family Fun Run on Trail leading up to the park. We decided that the best solution will be
to encourage running groups to use the Line Creek Trail, leading up to the park, prior to
and after the event. LaNette and Noel will create a flyer.
Field Day / Over-sized Yard Games - Deana working on these
Dunk Tank?
Police / Fire - Touch a Truck (south parking lot)
Supplies / Items needed
Use City PA System for ribbon cutting announcements
Vendor Tables
Rocks and rock painting supplies.
Nothing needed for Pickleball - Jack will provide.
Flyer / Map for timeline of events.
Shade Tents - possibly FPAL
Riverside could provide pre-packaged snack and/or Popcorn / Cotton Candy
Potential Partners
KC Pet Project
Dog / Pet Vendors - Stacy will contact (Eagle Animal Hospital, Pete & Macs, Parkville
Animal Shelter, etc.)
Dog Tricks / Trainers
Chicken and Pickle - Noel follow-up with Mayor. Possibly ask them to help promote.
Pickleball Programmer - Jack, USAPA Pickleball Ambassador is excited to be
involved. Will work on exhibition match and free lessons. Try to get sponsor from
Vulcan. Jack will put together a schedule.
Riverside Rocks (rock painting) - Rock painting table.
High School Band - possibly demo of playground percussion instruments. Noel might
reach out to The School of Rock instead.
DJ possibly
Northland and Riverside Chamber - possible connections for news anchors and others
Girls on the Run
FPAL - Noel can contact Noah Gibler
We discussed a timeline of events and determined that all activities will be available from
2:30-5pm. We can still provide a map of where the various activities are located in the
th
park. We discussed letting vendors know that we are tentatively planning for May 9 but
th
may want to do a back-up date of June 13.
Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on April 2, 2020.
