RIVERSIDE PARKS BOARD MEETING
MINUTES
August 6, 2020
6:00 p.m.
The Riverside Parks Board held a Zoom meeting. Those in attendance were: Noel Bennion, LaNette Ingram &
Elaine Warren.
Call to Order Noel Bennion called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm.
Meeting Minutes Meeting minute approval was tabled due to lack of quorum.
Recycle Grant – Noel reviewed the grant received from the Mid-America Regional Council
Potential Art (MARC) for a recycle art sculpture. Precedent examples were shown. This
Sculpture @ EH project was originally meant to be like the precedent examples, a large fish where
Young recyclables could be collected. We are now looking at making it a static piece that
is “permanently’ filled with recyclables. The Park Board liked this idea. It was
asked how this project correlates with the City likely needing to remove the large
recycle bins at City Hall campus due to contamination and illegal dumping. Since
this will be a static sculpture, the hope is that people will not abuse it by
contributing trash. There are several positive educational messages to share and
opportunities to hopefully partner with local students. The Park Board is in favor
of this idea. LaNette thought of possibly making the fish a tunnel or sculpture that
kids and others could walk inside. This could provide additional opportunities for
education and interactivity with the sculpture.
Tremont Trafficway – Noel reviewed the potential project for an art sculpture in this round-a-bout. With
Potential Art approval of the Board of Aldermen, we hope to follow a similar schedule and
Sculpture process to the Monarch Art project. We discussed potential themes for the art vs.
leaving it an open-ended call. Elaine suggested a “Riverside” theme to allow the
artist to create something unique to Riverside that could interpret the City’s
history, current state and/or future. Other ideas included something whimsical, a
focus on togetherness, or an Argosy theme. If an Argosy theme, the Park Board
would like Argosy to donate to the project.
Renner Brenner Park Two proposed improvements are in the budget for Renner Brenner Park. We are
Improvements hoping to receive a grant through the Missouri Scrap Tire program to upgrade the
playground surfacing. The Board of Aldermen requested fence around the
playground for the safety of kids. The Park Board members present are not in
favor of this idea. They feel that it makes the playground too closed off and the
funds would be better used for another project.
Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on September 3, 2020.
Adjournment The Zoom meeting concluded at 6:48 pm. ______
