HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-02-07 Parks Board Minutes RIVERSIDE PARKS BOARD MEETING MINUTES February 7, 2019 6:00 p.m. The Riverside Parks Board held their regularly scheduled meeting at Riverside City Hall, 2950 NW Vivion Road, Riverside Missouri 64150. Those in attendance were: Noel Challis, Elaine Warren, Cathy Kline, LaNette Ingram. Call to Order The Parks Board Meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Noel Challis. Approval of Minutes Minutes from the January 3 rd and January 17 th meeting were unanimously approved. Elaine motioned. LaNette second. Monarch Migration Planning to present the recommend artists to the BOA on 2/19. Walk - Update Have started folding the Origami butterflies at the Community Center and will soon be starting to fold at the library as well. Beyond the Bell has also helped with folding. Elaine offered to have their HOA fold butterflies at their community meeting. Cathy also mentioned her art students possibly being able to help. Montebella neighborhood is interested in installing plants that attract butterflies. Library has offered to be a site for the coloring contest. Cathy offered to create coloring sheets from the artist renderings. Noel will ask permission from the artists and ensure that they will receive recognition. Library will do an educational program in August as well as a book display. Northland CAPS intern has been assisting with the concept of the movie series. Might not do the movies at E.H. Young due to the construction schedule. We will look at doing the movies at Renner Brenner instead. Elaine offered assistance with the social media and working with our intern. Probably better participation in the movie series if it includes family-friendly and cartoons. We do have permission to show the “Flight of the Butterflies” documentary produced for IMAX. Community Art: Park Hill South and Lakeview Middle School should present their art concepts at the April Park Board meeting. The other site is not committed yet. We can follow-up with Cornerstones of Care. Cathy could also work with FPAL or the Girl Scouts to work on an art installation. One idea presented is to use multiple Girl Scout butterfly homes as an art installation. Cathy talked about the idea of installing finials on top of the butterfly houses. E.H. Young Riverfront Reviewed progress on the general playground layout. Confluence has planned for Park - Update various zones. We will plan on issuing the RFP for the playground design. The design of the water play area has been simplified. It will include a water runnel, pathways, and hand water pumps. We talked about the sand dig areas being themed with the Hopewell and Steamboat history of the area. Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on April 4, 2019. Adjournment Cathy made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:09 pm. LaNette seconded the motion. Motion approved.
