Girl Scout Troop 1840 We briefly discussed the proposed projects by the Girl Scouts from the previous Projects meeting: GaGa Ball Pit Confluence has incorporated this into the design, in the vicinity of the playground. We haven’t seen the exact location yet. We’ve elected to go with a concrete surface as it is easier to maintain. Buddy Benches We like these benches, but are concerned about the aesthetic not matching with E.H. Young Riverfront Park. We will let the girl scouts know that we would prefer these along the Line Creek Trail or in one of our other parks. Monarch Waystations We are planning to do some small monarch gardens or habitat restoration along the Line Creek Trail in association with the Monarch Migration Walk. EH Young We discussed two concepts for the playground water feature at E.H. Young. The two concepts for the paving echo natural features. The first mimics the flow of water in a creek and the second ice circles- a temporary phenomenon that occurs in nature. The majority of the park board leaned toward the ice circles pattern. Currently the water will come into the system with a hand pump. This helps conserve water. It’s also a more resilient system in flood times as compared to a spray ground. We also discussed the idea of introducing sand to the area. Confluence suggests that providing sand will make this the “go-to” material for kids to play with instead of dirt, sticks, leaves, etc. There is some concern about the sand looking and being messy as well as introducing an area that animals might want to use for a restroom. However, it’s also nice to allow kids the opportunity to play with natural elements. There is currently sand in the park at the volleyball area. Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on January 3, 2018. Adjournment Elaine made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:07 pm. Bill seconded the motion. Motion approved.
