HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-12-07 Parks Board Minutes RIVERSIDE PARKS BOARD MEETING MINUTES December 7, 2017 6:00 p.m. The Riverside Parks Board held their regularly scheduled meeting at Riverside City Hall, 2950 NW Vivion Road, Riverside Missouri 64150. Those in attendance were: Noel Challis, Lynette Ingram, Bill Bray, Deana Winter, Jill Hammond, Elaine Warren, Stacey Rasco, (recorder). Call to Order The Parks Board Meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Noel Challis. Approval of Minutes There were no minutes for approval. Park Board Noel presented information on the Riverside Parks system. The areas outlined Orientation were E.H. Young Riverfront Park, Homestead Park, Waterfall Park, Welcome Plaza and Renner Brenner Park. Trails were also reviewed including Line Creek, Interurban, Missouri River, Linear, Northwood Road and Vivion Road Trails. An outlined map of the parks was reviewed with reference to what has been completed and is still to be completed. Recreation programs such as the YMCA were discussed along with the Healthy Citizens Initiative program provided by the city. The Riverside Community Center offers fitness classes, an open gym time, Pickleball and other programs and events. The city has a city pool as well managed by the YMCA. Special events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk or Treat and the city Holiday Lighting Ceremony are offered to the city as a whole. Tourism funding has been essential in providing funds for the parks master plan. Future projects will be explored such as historic trail signs, 9-1-1 location signs and the old Fairfax bridge sign being placed. Future projects are Jumping Branch Trail and the Vivion Road Trail. The last time a city wide survey was completed was in 2014. Another survey will be completed in 2018. Information was handed out regarding various aspects of the parks and recreation offerings in Riverside. Overall ratings have increased since 2006. EH Young Master From December to January we will be selecting a consultant and negotiating a Plan scope and contract. From January – June, we will have a Steering Committee identifying stakeholders, public involvement and ultimately devising the Master Plan. Elaine will be the point person from the Park Board to the Steering Committee but we will all be involved in the overall process. Proposed Focus Groups These are 1 hour meetings with the consultant group. Jill asked what the goal of the master plan was for EH Young Park. The overall goal is to have plans by June with an opportunity to include this in next year’s budget. Election of Officers Noel explained the roles of the Chair and Vice-Chair prior to the elections. Jill Hammond made a motion to nominate Deana Winters for Chair and Bill Bray for Vice-Chair. All approved the appointments. Miscellaneous Information sheets were handed out for contact information. Next Meeting The next meeting will be held on January 4, 2017. Adjournment Deana Winters made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:53pm. Jill Hammond seconded the motion. All approved.
