TOURISM COMMISSION MEETING
RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI
Monday, April 10, 2017, 6:00 p.m.
The Tourism Commission for the City of Riverside, Missouri, met in regular session at Riverside
City Hall, 2950 NW Vivion Road, Riverside, Missouri.
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm.
Answering roll call were Commissioners Lori Locke, Denise Hamilton, and Brad Cope. Also
present were Board liaison Alderman Frank Biondo, City staff members Lori Boji, Stacey Rasco,
(recorder), Donna Oliver and Greg Mills.
Finance Donna Oliver, Riverside Finance Director, presented a summary of the
Tourism tax. Each year a 4% tax from hotel stays is gathered by the
city. These funds must be used for tourism. There is about $430,000
in reserves at this time. The committee expended about $150,000
this last year if application requests. The budget this year will have
about $680,000 with $175,000 going to be funded out. Last year the
Commission chose to start placing off the top $25,000 into the
reserve fund for future large expenditure ideas. This leaves $150,000
to be given out of application requests.
Greg Mills, Riverside City Administrator, stated that we are in the
middle of the budget now and a recommendation to the Board will
be given on the parameters of what the Board gives the Commission.
So if there is $150,000, the Board may say that $90,000 will go to
MusicFest and the rest will be for application requests.
Tourism Processes Lori Boji handed out the Application form and Park Rental Policy for
review and stated if there are any questions to please contact us.
Commissioner Cope asked for a run-down of those events that were
funded for 2017. As well include all private parties that are scheduled
in both parks with costs and estimated attendance.
Commissioner Cope asked if there were any Board initiatives assigned
to the Tourism Commission. Mr. Mills noted that the City wanted
along with the Park Board to do an E. H. Young park study. This did
not receive funding.
Commissioner Hamilton asked if we vetted our applicants to any
degree. Commissioner Locke noted that it is almost impossible to do
that work as we never know who we are going to receive applications
from before it’s time to grant the funds.
Commissioner Hamilton asked if it was possible to add verbiage to
the application so that requestors would know in advance that this
grant was only a stepping stone and not a forever grant.
Meeting dates/times Dates and times of the meetings were approved.
Adjournment, 6:36pm The meeting was adjourned by unanimous consent.
