AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING THE PUBLIC
SAFETY SALES TAX.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE,
MISSOURI AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1 — AMENDMENT. That Section 140.015 of the Municipal Code of the City of
Riverside, Missouri is hereby added to read as follows:
Section 140.015 Public Safety Sales Tax
Pursuant to Section 94.902, RSMo, a sales tax at the rate of one-half of one percent (.5%) is
imposed on all retail sales made in the City which are subject to taxation under Chapter 144,
RSMo. The proceeds from this tax shall be expended for the purpose of improving the public
safety of the City. This tax was approved by the voters on April 6, 2021.
SECTION 2 — GRANT OF FURTHER AUTHORITY. That the Mayor, the City
Administrator, Finance Director, City Clerk, and other appropriate City officials are hereby
authorized to take any and all actions as may be deemed necessary or convenient to carry out and
comply with the intent of this Ordinance (including but not limited to notifying the Missouri
Department of Revenue of the passage of the Public Safety Sales Tax) and to execute and deliver
for and on behalf of the City all certificates, instruments, agreements and other documents, as
may be necessary or convenient to perform all matters herein authorized.
SECTION 3 — EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall become upon its passage and
approval, provided that the sales tax imposed herein shall be effective on the first day of the
second calendar quarter after the director of revenue receives notice of the adoption of the sales
tax.
BE IT REMBERED that the above was read two times by heading only, PASSED AND
APPROVED by a majority of the Board of Aldermen and APPROVED by the Mayor of the
