Ordinance Overview
AGENDA DATE: January 18, 2022
BACKGROUND: This request is for the purchase of a replacement Dual Purpose dog
(patrol and narcotic detection) from FMK-9 in Berrien Center, Michigan. Our current
dog. Lyncke, had to be retired in November for health reasons. Although this request
was not a budget item in the 2021-2022 budget because of several factors in the police
department that have created savings, we are able to absorb the cost in the current
budget without additional funding. If the request is approved, an officer will be sent to
Michigan to train for six -weeks with the new K9. The cost will include the dog, housing,
training, per diem, and travel expenses.
BUDGETARY IMPACT: $17,978
