y Resolution Overview
OFFICER
AGENDA DATE: December 5, 2023
BACKGROUND: This request is for the purchase of one new patrol vehicle. Each
year, we evaluate our fleet and determine what vehicles need replacing. This year,
there were three in our patrol fleet. We also evaluate what brands of vehicles are
available and their cost. We were approved for three in the FY 24 budget, and we have
received those vehicles. The Dodge dealership ordered four vehicles for us during the
purchase process versus three.
As we have been reviewing our vehicle purchasing practices, we recognize it is getting
much more difficult to order and receive a vehicle within a 12-18-month time frame.
Because of this issue and several of our pool vehicles are at or past their service life,
we propose purchasing the remaining Durango to replace the SRO vehicle and take
that vehicle and make it a spare patrol unit and pool vehicle for training and personnel
transportation. The SRO vehicle was on the schedule for replacement during FY 25 so
this purchase would eliminate that vehicle on the replacement list next year. This
dealership is a MARC cooperative contract dealership and can get our vehicles in under
a year.
Although this is not a budgeted item. we do have funds in the Public Safety Sales Tax
fund to handle this purchase.
BUDGETARY IMPACT: $57,100
