R-2024-121 A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE AQUATIC CENTER RULES WHEREAS, the City is upgrading the municipal pool and adding a splashground; and WHEREAS, with the additional facilities it is necessary to update the Aquatic Center rules; and WHEREAS, the City partners with the YMCA for the management of the Aquatic Center and the YMCA recommends the rules as set forth in Exhibit A attached hereto; and WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen find it in the best interest of citizens of the City of Riverside to adopt the Aquatic Center rules attached hereto as Exhibit A; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE MISSOURI AS FOLLOWS: THAT the adoption and implementation of the Aquatic Center rules attached hereto, marked Exhibit A, and made a part hereof by reference is hereby approved; FURTHER THAT the city staff and the YMCA shall put into action such other measures and take such additional action as reasonably necessary to implement such policy. Rose, Mayor ATTEST: , Lo' Robin Kincaid, City'Clerk EXHIBIT A AQUATIC CENTER RULES SWIMMING POOL Lifeguards enforce rules for the benefit and safety of all swimmers. • No running or rough play. • Pool toys must be approved by the lifeguard, subject to the number of pool users. • To enter the pool, proper swim attire is required (no street clothes allowed). • A guardian(18 years and older)must be within arm's reach of children 5 years and younger. • Children who are not potty-trained must be in a swim diaper and swimsuit. • No glass permitted in the pool area. • Aquatic Center is a smoke/vapor,tobacco, alcohol, and drug free environment. • Food and drink are permitted only in designated areas. • No pets allowed. • No underwater breath holding permitted. • Personal flotation devices must be U.S. Coast Guard approved. • Diving is only permitted in the designated areas. • Notify a lifeguard if you have any questions or concerns. • Capacity is limited, so the pool may not be available to all guests during peak times. Pass the Test. Lose the Vest. All swimmers ages 14 and younger are required to pass a swim test before being allowed in the pool without a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device("PFD")or without direct adult supervision. Swim Test: Jump into the deep end of the pool, submerge fully,return to the surface and immediately begin swimming without pushing off the wall. Swim in a horizontal position, on stomach and on top of the water, swimming a true stroke (doggy paddling is not allowed). Exit the pool without assistance using the wall (cannot use the ladder to exit). Swim test can be administered by any Lifeguard employed by the YMCA/Riverside. Swimmers who pass the Test: Swimmers 8 and younger must have an adult remain on-site at the pool. Swimmers 9 and older may use the pool on their own without an adult at the pool with them. Swimmers who are still working towards passing the Test: Children, ages 14 and younger, who have not passed the swim test must wear a PFD,unless they are within arm's reach of an adult 18 years or older. Youth who have not passed a swim test may not go off the diving board. Important Note: Lifeguards have full authority over the pool and have the discretion to mandate a PFD on a swimmer at any time as well as require a swim test for any swimmer at any time. SPLASHGROUND No lifeguard on duty when splashground only is open. • No running or rough play. • Pool toys must be approved by the lifeguard, subject to the number of splashground users. • To enter the splashground, proper swim attire is required(no street clothes allowed). • Children under the age of 9 must be supervised by a guardian at least 18 years of age. • Children who are not potty-trained must be in a swim diaper and swimsuit. • No glass permitted on or around the splashground. • Aquatic Center is a smoke/vapor, tobacco, alcohol, and drug free environment. • Food and drink are permitted only in designated areas. • No pets allowed. • No climbing or hanging onto spray features. • Skateboards, rollerbiades, bikes and scooters are prohibited in splashground areas. • Water is treated with chlorine and recirculated. Do not drink the water! • Do not use the splashground if you feel unwell or have experienced diarrhea within the past 24 hours. • Splashground is not to be used when thunder is heard and/or lightning is present. • All individuals using splashground do so at their own risk. • When splashground and pool are open, lifeguard has full authority over splashground and pool.
