AN ORDINANCE REGARDING ANNOUNCEMENT OF CANDIDATES, PROVIDING
FOR NOTICE OF ELECTION, PROVIDING FOR COMPENSATION FOR ELECTION
JUDGES AND CLERKS AND CANVASSING OF OFFICIAL RETURNS OF ELECTION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF
RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. ANNOUNCEMENT OF CANDIDACY. All candidates for
office shall also file with the City Clerk of the City at the
same time that they file .their announcement of candidacy, an
affidavit subscribed and sworn by such candidate, showing the
length of time that such candidate has been a resident of the
City of Riverside and stating such candidate's age.
Section 2. TIME OF ANNOUNCEMENT. All said announcements
of candidac shall be filed with the Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on
~~~ ~S pit ~,~r . All candidates for offices at any special
election shall file their announcements of candidacy with the
City Clerk at least 10 days before the election.
Section 3. NOTICE OF ELECTION. The City Clerk shall provide
to the County Clerk the form of the ballot and form of notice
prior to February 21st of each year and in-the case of .a special
election administered by the City Clerk then the City Clerk shall
publish in some newspaper of general circulation in the City of
Riverside, Missouri and published in Platte County, Missouri,
notice of any general or special election held for the purposes
of electing one or more City officials. Such notice shall be not
less than ten nor more than twenty days prior to the day of election.
Such notice shall in substance give the date of the election and
the offices to be filled.
Section 4. JUDGES AND CLERKS OF ELECTIONS. Judges and
Clerks of elections shall perform all duties as prescribed by
the State Election Laws.
Section 5. COMPENSATION OF JUDGES AND CLERKS. Judges and
Clerks, when paid on a special election from City funds, shall
be paid the sum of $3.00 per hour.' .When compensation is provided
from the Office of the County Clerk then Judges and Clerks shall
receive. such sum as provided in the State Statutes of the State
of Missouri.
Section 6. CERTIFICATION IN SPECIAL ELECTION. After all
-- - votes have been registered and counted in any special election
.administered by the City then the Judges and Clerks shall certify
the results of said election to the City Clerk either on the day
of the election or on the following day.. Returns shall be
canvassed by the Board of Aldermen at its next meeting following
the election and the results thereof made a part of the record
of the City. Each person declared elected shall receive a
certificate of election issued by the City Clerk.
Section 7. POLLING PLACE. The polling place shall be that
place designated by election authority or when permitted by law,
by the Board of Aldermen.- '
Section 8. DECLARATION OF CANDIDACY. Any person who desires
_ to become a candidate at .any city .election, for any elective .office,
shall file with the City Clerk of the City of Riverside, a
written declaration of his intent to become a candidate at said
election. The form of said written declaration shall be substant-
ially as follows:
TO THE CLERK OF THE CITY:
I, the undersigned, having all the legal qualifications
required by law, hereby notify you, in writing, that I
am and shall be a candidate, at the ensuing municipal-
election for the office of (here, name the office
and, if for Aldermen, name the ward), and request
you to place my name on the official ballots as a
candidate at-said election for the aforesaid office.
Section 9. TIME FOR VOTING. The polling places shall be
opened from 6 o'clock a.m. to 7 o'clock p.m.
