AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND ADOPTING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE
CITY OF GLADSTONE, MISSOURI, AND THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI,
TO PROVIDE FOR A RECIPROCAL EXCHANGE OF FIRE FIGHTING PERSONNEL
AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE MUTUAL PROTECTION OF THE PROPERTY ANDLIVES
OF PERSONS IN THE TWO MUNICIPALITIES AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING
THE MAYOR AND THE CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE SAID AGREEMENT ON BEHALF
OF THE CITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the Board of Aldermen of the City of
Riversi~~ find and determine that in order to promote
the health, safety and general welfare, comfor and convenience
of the City of Riverside, its inhabitants and public generally,
it is beneficial to enter a reciprocal agreement between the
City of Gladstone,-Missouri, and the City of Riverside, Missouri,
respecting the mutual exchange of fire fighting personnel and
equipment for the mutual protection of the property and lives of
persons in the two municipalities; that a copy of said agreement
is attached hereto, marked exhibit "A" and is incorporate3 herein
by reference.
Section 2. That the provisions of the agreement referred to in
Section ereof are hereby approved and adopted by the Board of
Aldermen of the City of Riverside and the Mayor and the City Clerk
are hereby authorized and directed to execute said agreement on
behalf of the City.
Section 3. That the provisions of this ordinance shall be in
full ore and effect immediately upon its passage by the Board of
Aldermen and approval thereof by the Mayor.

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ON BEHALF OF THE CITY
OF GLADSTONE, MISSOURI, AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, _
A MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, TO PROVIDE FOR L4UTUAL ASSISTANCE FOR PROTECTION
FROM FIRES.
WHEREAS, Missouri law makes a contract between political subdivisions a
necessary precedent to rendering service outside corporate limits, and
WHEREAS, no calls for such assistance outside the limits of political
subdivisions will be rendered until such contract is entered into,
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GLADSTONE, MISSOURI, AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That, the City Manager of the City of Gladstone, Missouri,
® be and is hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the City of Gladstone,
Missouri, an Agreement with the City of Riverside, Missouri, a municipal
corporation, to provide for mutual assistance for protection from fires
in Gladstone and in the area served by the City of Riverside, Missouri.

A G R E E M E N T
THIS AGREEMENT was made by and between the CITY OF RIVERSIDE,
a municipal corporation, and the CITY OF GLADSTONE, a municipal
corporation.
WITNESSETH:
THAT WHEREAS, the City of Riverside and the City of
Gladstone are neighboring political subdivisions; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary under the law to enter into a
written, contract for such services to protect the members of
the fire departments of said political subdivisions in the
matter of pensions and personal injuries and insurance services
and to relieve the department heads from personal liability..
NOW THEREOFRE, for and in consideration of the mutual
covenants between said political subdivisions, it is agreed
that:
1. The fire department of either of said political sub-
divisions may respond to calls for help received from the fire
chief or the subordinate officer in charge of the fire department
of the other party to this agreement; provided, however, that
response is to be given only when the fire department called
on or aid is not otherwise occupied, and only when the services
of the responding company can be spared with a margin of safety;
and provided, further, that the political subdivisions agree
not to call for help unless fire in the area is out of control
and spreading, or unless its fire department is engaged in

fighting another fire simultaneously, or unless another fire
• has broken out and cannot be handled by the city. a
2. The heads of the fire departments in the respective
political subdivisions shall be the sole judge of how much
assistance is needed or can be furnished under the circumstances
of each particular case; and it is agreed that neither shall
be liable in any way to the other or its inhabitants or any
other person, firm or corporation for any failure to give the
assistance asked.
