HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-0339 - Convicted Persons to Work on StreetsBILL N0. ~~~ ORDINANCE NO.~ AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING THAT ALL PERSONS WHO HAVE BEEN CONVICTED AND SENTENCED BY THE POLICE JUDGE FOR VIOLATIONS OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE WHETHER THE PUNISHMENT BE BY FINE OR IMPRISONMENT OR BOTH SHALL BE PUT TO WORK AND PERFORM LABOR ON PUBLIC STREETS, HIGHWAYS AND ALLEYS OR OTHER PUBLIC BUILDINGS OR GROUNDS OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE FOR THE PERIOD OF SUCH PRI60NERS~ IMPRISONMENT OR UNTIL SUCH FINE SHALL BE PAID AT THE RATE OF ONE DOLLAR ($1.00) EACH DAY WORKED. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. All persons who have been convicted and sentenced by the Judge of the Police Court of the City of Riverside for violation of any of the ordinances of this City, and the punishment shall be by iunprisonment, shall be put to work and perform labor on the public streets, highways and alleys or other public works, buildings or lands within this City, for such purposes as the City may deem necessary. Section 2. The City Marshall, or in his absence, the Assistant Chief of Police, is hereby authorized and directed to have or cause all such prisoners as may be directed by the Mayor to work out the full number of days for which they may have been sentenced at working upon such public streets, highways or alleys or other public buildings or work of the City. Section 3. If the punistunent is by fine and the fine be not paid, then for every dollar of such judgment, the prisoner shall work one (1) day as provided above. Section 4. It shall be deemed a part of the judgment and sentence of the Court that such prisoner be worked as herein provided.
