HomeMy WebLinkAbout1952-16 Fixing Time and Manner of Notice for Elections, Providing Time for Candidate Filing, Providing for Pay and Election Result ReturnsBILL N0. 16 ORDINANCE NO. 16 AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE TIME AND MANNER OF GIVING NOTICE OF ELECTION OF CITY OFFICIALS; PROVIDING FOR THE TIME FOR FILING AlNOUNCEMENTS OF CANDIDATES FOR CITY OFFICES, PROVIDING FOR ELECTION CLERKS, FOR PAY OF JUDGES AND CLERKS, FOR THE MANNER OF MAKING RETURNS OF THE RESULTS OF OFFICIAL ELECTIONS. BE IT ORDAINED BY TIF BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the city clerk shall publish in some newspaper of general circulation in the City of Riverside, printed and published in Platte County, Missouri, notice of any general or special election held for the purposes of electing one or more City officials. Such notice shall not be less than ten or more than twenty days prior to the day of election. Such notice shall in substance give the date of the election and the offices to be filled. Section 2. All candidates for offices to be filled at any general or special election shall file their announcements of candidacy with the City Clerk of the City at least fifteen (15) days before the election. Section 3. At the time of the election there shall be one (1) clerk for each election ward at any general or special election to assist the judges in recording the names of the voters, making the counts, and in making returns. Such clerks shall, before entering upon their duties, take and subscribe to the same oath as is required to be taken by the judges of election. The Board of Aldermen reserves the right to choose the election clerks. Should, however, they fail to make a selection or should those chosen fail to appear and take the oath at the time of the opening of the polls on election day, the election judges shall have the right to choose the election clerks. Section Z{.. Each judge of an election of City officials shall be paid a fee of Five and No/100 35.00) Dollars for the day and each clerk. Section 5. After all votes have been registered and counted, the number given each candidate shall be tallied by the counting judges with the assistance of their clerks and the total vote for each candidate shall be recorded all in proper books to be furnished the judges. These records shall be certified to by the judges and clerks on the forms provided for in said record books and filed with the City Clerk, either on the day of the election or on the following day. These returns shall be canvassed by the Board of Aldermen at its next meeting following the election and the results thereof -2- Ord. No. 16 declared by ordinance. Each person declared elected shall receive a certificate of election issued by the City Clerk. Passed this 13 day of Feb., 1952. /s/ F.F.
