HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-08-03MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF BOARD OF ALDERMEN CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI ugust , A regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Riverside, Missouri, was held in the City Hall in Riverside on August 3, 1982, at 7:30 p.m. On a roll call, aldermen West, Scudder, Rodeberg, Peeler and Karr were present, Gordy absent and Mayor Holmes called said meet- ing to order. The minutes of July 20, 1982, were read and approved as corrected. Rose Selleck was present and said she would like to see the City do whatever is necessary to make it illegal to shoot bottle rocket in Riverside. Leann Zimmerman was present and said she would like to see all fireworks outlawed in Riverside. A letter to Mayor Holmes from John Dvorich was read. This concerned Mr. Dvorich's request that fireworks be outlawed in Riverside. Dick Grogan was in Riverside. Page 2, August 3, 1982 Reg. Minutes. Mayor Holmes announced that he recommends the following to be on the Park Board: Peggy DeMoss, Brenda Titters, Loraine Owens and Bob Scudder. Peggy DeMoss for one year; Brenda Titters for two years; Loraine Owens for three years and Bob Scudder will be the fourth member representing the Council. West moved that the four members, i.e. Peggy DeMoss, Brenda Titters, Loraine Owens and Bob Scudder, be members of the Park Board as recom- meded by Mayor Holmes, seconded by Rodeberg, the roll was called and votes were as follows: West, Scudder, Rodeberg, Peeler and Karr voted aye; Gordy absent. Bill Woodside was present and inquired whether or not the City had given more thought concerning a variance with regard to his build- ing and he was advised that our ordinance did not permit this. A recess was called. Meeting reconvened. The roll was called and West, Scudder, Rodeberg, Peeler and Karr were present, Gordy absent. The committee that interviewed the applicants for the position of Street Department Manager recommended Gary Frank Dixon for the sum of $6.50 per hour. Rodeberg moved that the City accept the recommendation of the com- mittee that interviewed the applicants for the Street Department Manager -- and hire Gary Frank Dixon at the rate of $6.50 per hour on eight-months probation, beginning August 9, 1982, and that this be Bill No. 82-27 and placed on its first reading, seconded by West, the roll was called and votes were as follows: West, Scudder, Rodeberg, Peeler and Karr voted aye; Gordy absent. Karr moved that Bill No. 82-27 be placed on its second reading, seconded by West, the roll was called and votes were as follows: West, Scudder, Rodeberg, Peeler and Karr voted aye; Gordy absent. Said bill was accordingly read. West moved that Bill No. 82-27 be placed on its third reading and upon passage of same become Ordinance No. 82-27, seconded by Scudder, the roll was called and votes were as follows: West, Scudder, Rodeberg,Karr and Peeler voted aye; Gordy absent; said bill was accordingly read, attached hereto and made a part hereof, approved by Mayor Holmes and became Ordinance No. 82-27. A discussion was had concerning the employment of Gary Dixon and it was the consensus of the Board that he punch a time clock and that he work on a 40-hour week basis, the hours per day could vary, so long as the total hours worked are 40 hours. Betty Burch is to give notice to the people cleaning the City Hall to discontinue their services as of the first of September, 1982. - A letter dated July 22, 1982, from the Salvation Army was received, setting out our requirements for their placing one of the Salvation Containers on the City's parking lot. Page 3, Aug. 3, 1982 Reg. Meeting. Chief Wingo brought out that Mike Shelton has had his fourth-year anni- versary with the City on July 16, 1982, and is now due the longevity pay. West moved that Bill No. 82-28 being bill to recognize the anniver- sary dates of the Public Safety Department employees and give them the increase earned as set out in the payroll schedule be handled on a routinely basis, seconded by Scudder, the roll was called and votes were as follows: West, Scudder, Rodeberg,/~nrdr Peeler voted aye; Gordy absent, said bill was accordingly read. West moved that Bill No. 82-28 be placed on its third reading and upon passage of same become Ord. No. 82-28, seconded by Rodeberg, the roll was called and votes were as follows: West, Scudder, Rodeberg, Peeler and Karr voted aye; Gordy absent; said bill was accordingly read, attached hereto and made a part hereof, approved by Mayor Holmes and became Ordinance No. 82-28. Chief Wingo read a letter from Kansas Highway Patrol thanking and '" complimenting the City for the excellent work its Public Safety Officers had done to help the Patrol out. Chief Wingo announced that there is a Firemen's School in Columbia which would last five days and he recommends that Bill Palmer and Mike Shelton attend. The Board approved Bill Palmer and Mike Shelton attending the Fire- men's School and they also approved that they receive $10.00 per day per person for expenses. There being no further business, upon motion made, seconded and passed, meeting adjourned at 12:32 a.m., August 4, 1982. 9~'~
