Of Board of Aldermen of the City
Of Riverside, Missouri
August 2, 1977
A regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen of the City of River-
side, Missouri, was held in the City E~l.l in Riverside, Missouri on August 2,
1977, at 7:30 p.m. Upon a roll call Aldermen Rodeberg, Brenner, Best,
Scudder, West and Swetnam were present, Mayor Young calling said meeting
to order.
The minutes of meeting of July 19, 1976, were read and approved
as corrected.
Betty Burch presented application for sign permit for Riverside
Baptist Day dare Center, 4800 Homested Road; said application Was approved
subject to the payment of the fee.
With regard to the roads, Brenner thought he would have this
information for the next meeting.
Herzog Enterprises, Inc. presented application for addition
to Norm's Drive In. West moved that this application be approved subject
to the payment of the fee, seconded by Scudder, the roll was called and
votes were as follows: Rodeberg, Brenner, Best, Scudder, West and Swetnam
voted aye.
Charles M. Clark, R.R.#4, Box 415, Liberty, Missouri 64068,
presented application for sign for his business at 4141 N.W. Riverside,
Mo. (upholstry shop). West moved that the application be approved,
seconded by Scudder, the roll was called and votes were as follows:
Rodeberg, Brenner, Best, Scudded West, and Swetnam voted aye.
Bill Bright discussed the matter of auditing the City Books
with the Board and Mayor. It was recommended by the Board that each time
Bill Bright audits the books that he come before the Board, since there
may be some changes to be incorporated in the audit. Aldo it was recommended
that Bright contact the Municipal League auditor before he starts to do
his auditing. It was also recommended that the auflid be put together
is such a way that other reports can be added to it.
With regard to repaving the Highway (71) it was suggested
that Midwest Precote be contacted to see when this overlay is scheduled.
Don Jack was requested to check the Snowden's houses to see if
they were set back 35', and Don Jack said these checked out to be 35'.
Don Jack discussed the problem of the doors on the new addition
to the City Hall with the Mayor and Board The Mayor and Board felt that
Noble Construct mn should not be paid the remainder of the money until
all problems are worked out. The City is in no hurry to get the doors
replaced and felt that every phase ofthe problem should be looked into.
Should get the price of the doors, see if there are other i~ulated doors
to replace these, look into other types of doors.

Don Witt said he had worked on the flood ordinance in permanent
form. He wants the Mayor and Board to read this over carefully before
passing.
There is to be an FAA meeting August 10, 1977. The City will be
represented, and the Clerk is to notify Eagleton's office ss well as
Coleman's office to see if representative could be present.
Young advised that he had gotten a call from Rep. Scagalia
regarding the Blue Law. Mayor Young had also oontacted some of the
Mayors from the surrounding Cities. He also stated that the Judges at
Platte City Court House had been contacted. Platte Woods advised
they would contribute $1,000 toward an election regarding the Blue Law,
should this be needed. Parkville}ad advised verbally that they would
send a letter advising they were in favor of lifting the Blue Law.
West moved that should it become necessary, Riverside would
be willing to donate $2500 towards election regarding Blue Law, seconded
by Scudder, the roll was called and votes were as follows: Rodegerg,
Brenner, Best, Scudder, West and Swetnam voted aye.
~,A ~~+layor Young appointed Rodeberg, Scudder and Swetnam to meet
with Coack Light Skating Rink people, other business in the area,
Juvenile officer and Hohimer to see what can be worked out with regard
to the children being dropped off for the skating rink.
With regard to the mowing of weeds, this matter will be looked
into.
The bids on the construct~rn of the plumbing, electrical wiring
dry wall, etc. would be receilvJed by the ne~ct meeting.

West moved thaty~the City employ Henry Ellis in lieu of the
termination of Trotter's employment;... that said employment to begin this
date at a salary of $950.00 per month for the first six months that he
isaprobation and then to be increased to $1,000 per month if he is
sa~isfectory, seconded by Brenner, the roll was called and votes as follows:
Rodeberg, Brenner, Best, Scudder, West and Swetnam voted aye.
West moved that Trotter be paid for one week's vacation; two
weeks sick leave and one month severance pay, Best seconded the motion,
the roll was called and votes were as follows: Rodeberg, Brenner, Best,
Scudder, West and Swetnam voted aye.
Brenner moved that the City purchase a radio for Wingo's vehicle
for the sum of $350, including installation and ready for use, seconded by
Rodeberg, the roll was called and votes w®re as follows: Rodeberb, Brenner,
Best, Scudder, West and Swetnam voted aye;

Hohimer spoke with regard to obtaining a hew telephone system;
this matter is to be looked into further.
Rodeberg reported that Mid-Continent Library had made changes
and these seemed to be quite an improvement.
There being no further business, upon motion made, seconded
and passed, meeting adjourned.
