HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-03-09MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI MARCH 9, 1976 A regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen of the City of River- side, Missouri, was held in the City Hall on March 9, 1976, at 7:30 p.m. Upon a roll call, aldermen Best, Scudder, West, Grogan, Vulgamott and Swetnam were present, Mayor Czamanske calling said meeting to order. The minutes of meeting of btarch 2, 1976, were read and approved as written and corrected. Mayor Czmanaske announced that this meeting was specifically set for the hearing on the request of Platte County Communi~atton Company for permission to operate in Riverside, Missouri. There were present the people renting space for their businesses from Lloyd Brown in his new building on West Platte Road. They wanted to see if their problem of obtaining occupation license could be worked out. The Mayor and Board agreed to hear this matter after the Platte County Communication Company's matter was heard. Mr. John Schott made the presentation for Platte County Communica- tion Company for Cable T-V in Riverside. He said they use the old microwave tower on Park College Campus. They are presently setting up in Parkville where they were just recently ale to work out their being able to operate in that City. They are presently in most of the densd.y populated areas in the non-incorporat~d..areas in Platte County. They are in Walnut Creek, Blair Road, and-Waukomis. He explained how the Cable T-V works. They carry Channels 2, 4, 5, 19 and 41 out of K.C., 11, 13 and 27 out of Topeka and expect to add to these. They plan on getting the channel which is on 24 hours a day, one which gives the weather, news, time and stock market. They also can provide the channel which has the movies - 18 each month, they add 8 and remove 8 each are Missouri corporation, all of their stock holders ~.Y~~/r/Na~. are 'people, six from Platte County, 2 from Jackson, 1 from Clay and 1 from Overland Park. They have been in Platte County since 1972. They have 13 on line stations with capability of 30 plus the movie. They charge is $7.00 per month for the cable T-V, with the movie channel, it will be $7.95 per month or a total of $14.95 per month for both. However, in order to change over to the Cable T-V, they install a converter for $40.00, this is a one-tine charge and when one does not wish to have this they may turn it in and receive a $40.00 efund. They will make the hook-ups for no charge and give a 30~~~ee trial. John Schott agreed they would be willing accept conditions similar to those set out in Parkville's Ordinance. It was set out by Don Witt that he is of the opinion Riverside could not enter into an agreement of this type for 15 years, it would have to be on a two year basis. It would take them approximately six months to complete their hook-ups in Riverside, should they be allowd to come into the City. Mr. Schott advised that Park College has installed a local regional station and are using the Cable T-V'a equipment which they have no objection to so long as the programs pertain to north of the river matters. It is his understanding tla t each of the schools will have their own program. Mr. Schott mentioned the fact that if a person did not want to pay $40.00 for the converter, then he could rent it for $1.50 per month. Mr. Schott also advised that they would be agreeable to the saturation program wherein the City could have someone come to their office and inspect the books to see how the business was progressing and should it be in such condition to see its way to lower the price of this service, it would do so. There appeared to be no objections from the Mayor and Board and any of the other people present. The matter would be tabled, a committee would be formed to study this furthe r. The matte~~//~f the people renting space for their business from LLoyd Brown (Bins Enterprise) inquired if the City could thll them what could be done so they may receive occupation license. This matter was discussed. It was agreed by the Mayor and Board that these people would not receive another summons for this Coming Monday, that Lloyd Brown will be served one for each day he is in violation of the Ordinances. Mr. Brown's attorney agreed to have Mr. Bro present at the meeting. next Tuesday and to proceed to straighten out the pending problems regarding the building and area surrounding it. Some of the problems were, Drainage, paving of the drive; description of the property which was to be rezoned. There being no further business, upon motion made, seconded and passed, meeting adjourned.
