HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-06-04Minutes of Regular Meeting of Board of Aldermen June 4, 1963 A regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen of City of Riverside, Missouri was held in the city hall in Riverside on June 4, 1963 at 8:00 p.m. and upon a roll call, aldermen H. Brenner, W. Brenner, Clark, Swetnam and Young were present, Mayor Filger calling said meeting to order. regular meeting of Minutes of/May 21, 1963 were corrected and approved as corrected. W. Brenner moved that Mr. Fred Graf's building permit for storage building behind Conoco Service Station on U. S. 71 Highway be approved on a one year temporary basis, depending upon whether there are any complaints from citizens, seconded by Clark, the roll was called and votes were as follows: H.Brenner-aye; W.Brenner-aye; Clark-aye; Owens-absent; Swetnam-aye; and Young-aye. Mr. Brown of the Shriners was present and also Mr. Williams. Mr. Williams expressed his opinion that the license fee of $375.00 was too high and they could not pay that much. Young asked what amount they could pay and Mr. Williams stated $100.00 was as high as they could go. Since the ordinance regarding carnivals and concession stands could not be changed as others in Riverside were paying that amount, Young stated he would pay the balance of $275.00, making a total of $375.00. A group of residents from Northwood Acres were present at the meeting and Mr. Carpenter explained to the council regarding the accident on High Drive. T ere were two. witnesses who appeared at the hearing in court. Mr. Bra~ford wondered how witnesses were notified to appear in court. Mr. Bradford made a statement about the accident. Mr. Clancy testified on the case in court and the fact there was evidence withheld and the reason they didn't testify to the evidence was because it was not mentioned by the patrolman. Young asked the fudge what the charges were against the driver and the fudge sued they were driving under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene of the accident and careless and reckless driving. The reason the patrolman didmnot bring out all evidence was due to the fact the was not a witness to the accident. The fudged advised the outcome of the trial was the man was charged with careless and reckless driving and driving under the influence which were turned in to the State and they are the proper authority to revoke drivers license. Judge Swetnam explained the reason for dropping the charge of leaving the scene of the accident. Mr. Ballenger was also present at the meeting. W. Brenner moved that Mr. Igo's business license application - be approved for commercial art studio in the Riverside Downs Building, seconded by Swetnam, the roll was called and votes were as follows: H.Brenner-aye; W.Brenner-aye; Clark-ale; Owens-absent; Swetnam-aye; and Young-aye; Swetnam moved that Mr. Dorseg draw up contract with Wayside Waifs, Inc. and that he also draw up ordinance hiring Wayside Waifs and to also insert the paragraph that Wayside Waifs requested, if same were in order, seconded by Clark, the roll was called and votes were as follows: H.Brenner-aye; W.Brenner-aye; Clark-aye; Owens-absent; Swetnam-aye; and Young-aye. Young moved that Bill No. D-63-11 being bill providing for the appropriation of money out of the general fund of the City of riverside for the payment of certain indebtedness as listed therein be placed on its first reading, seconded by H. Brenner, the roll was called and votes sere as follows:H.Brenner-aye; W.Brenner-ayes Clark-aye; Owens-absent; ~S-~tnam- aye; and Youngpaye; Bill No. D-63-11 was accordingly read. Clark moved that rules be suspended and Bill No. D-63-11 be placed on its second reading, seconded by Swetnam, the roll was called and votes were as folio ws: H.Brenner-aye; W.Brenner-aye; Clark-aye; 8wens-~el~ Swetnam-aye; Young-aye; and Bill No. D-63-11 was accordingly read. No. D-63-11 ~~conded by Clark, the roll was called and votes were as follows: __. Brenner-aye; W.Brenner-aye; Clark-aye; Owens-absent; Swetnam-aye; Young-aye; Bill No. D-63-11 was accordingly read, approved by Mayor Filger and became Ord. No. D-63-11. W.
