i1 special meeting of the city council was called to order by Mayor Filger
on March 12, 1953. Aldermen present: Young, Clark, Beach, Brenner, Renner,
and Scrivner. Visitors: Mrs. John Brenner and Mrs. Arthur Davis.
Minutes were read and approved. Treasurer's report and collector's report
were read and approved.
New Business:
Mrs. Clark presented letters to Ford Motor Co., Burlington R.R., and General
Motors, suggesting possible ways we might be able to develop our industrial area
of Riverside. Motion made by Clark that letters be sent to these companies in-
viting their inspection of the area. Sec. by Scrivner. All council members voted
yes. Motion carried.
Mr. Young is to contact Mrs. Crabtree about an open well which is supposedly
on her property.
Discussion about a survey to determine city limits boundary line between River-
side and Parkville, and about the release to Parkville of annexed area. Mayor
Filger is to talk with Mayor 'Nhipple on these matters to see if they would be
willing to pay part of the survey expenses.
Executed acceptances of the franchise ordinances were received from the ga.s
Service Co. and Power and Light Company on the 26th day of February, 1953.
Mr. Young made a report on the Missouri River Flood Protection Association
meeting held in St. Joseph.
Mra. John Brenner gave a report on the progress of the Poat Office for
Riverside.
Mr. Young made a report on Green's trailer court, and reported complaints of
stray dogs in the area.
The city clerk was ordered to send a statement of election expenses of the
special election held on January 27, 1953, to the Power and Light Company.
Discussion about road repair in Northwood. Richard Brenner is to be contacted,
and if he doesn't follow through with hie promise, the council will continue the
discussion at the next regular meeting.
ORDINANCES:
"Pro-rating occupation license fees by the month for new businesses effective this
date, March 12, 1953. No license issued by the City of Riverside is to be tran~-
ferable." Young moved to plane Bill No. 88 on first reading. Sec. by Renner.
All council members voted 'YES'. Motion carried.
b?r. Young moved that rules be suspended and that bill ~8S be placed on its
second reading. Sec. by Beach. All aldermen voted 'YES'. Motion carried.
P,2re. Clark moved that rules be suspended and that Bill X88 be placed on third
reading and that same be passed and become ordinance #88. All aldermen voted 'YES'
Motion carried.
Bill X89-"Mrs. Frances DeBow, City Clerk, is to receive $50 per month for the next
six months, beginning January 1, 1953."
Brenner moved that Bill #~89 be placed on first reading. Sec. by Clark. All
aldermen voted YES. Motion carried.
Dirs. Clark moved that rules be suspended and that bill #89 be placed on its
second reading. Sec. by Beach. Alb aldermen voted YES. Motion carried.
Mr. Yo~ moved that soles be suspended and that Bill X89 be placed on third
reading and that same be passed and become ordinance j~89. All voted yes. Carried.

Motion by Renner that rules be suspended and that Bill ~90 be ple.ced on its

Motion by Clark that rules be suspended and that Bill ~89-be placed on third
reading and that same be passed and become ordinance X90. Sec. by Brenner. All
aldermen voted yea. Motion carried.
Bill No. X90- Authorizing the city clerk to publish notices of the next election
Bill No. X91--"Providing for changing of numbers of some of the ordinances in order
that said ordinances appear in chronological order."
Motion by Young that Bill ~'91 be placed on first reading. Sec. by Brenner.
All aldermen voted yes. Motion carried.
Motion by Brenner that rules be suspended and that Bill No. 91 be placed on
its second reading. All aldermen voted Yea. Motion carried. Sew, C~grk

readiz.g and that same be passed and become ordinance X91. Sec. by Young. All
aldermen voted yes. Motion carried.
The members of the council expressed their appreciation to Roy Renner for
the table which he made to be used in the city hall.
