Minutes of meeting, August 15, 1952 of the
FEDERAL CIVIL DEFENSE ASSOCIATION.
Pieeting conducted by General Thrasher.
Municipalities represented;
Oak Grove, Ray Town, tideston, Platte City, Parkville, Riverside,
Lee Summitt, Sugar Creek, Clay Coma, and North Kansas City.
Approximately four-one-half million dollars have been
allocated for civilian defense use in the U.S.A. The state
of Missouri have been alloted ~p385,000. which is available
now. (Aug, 15, 1952) This figure does not include the
250.000 which has already been spent for personel.
Kansas City is to receive about y~135,000 of this portion.
The rest going to the City of Saint Lois. Saint Joseph
turned down all moneys available.
There are sixty-five target cities in the U.S.A. Kansas City
of which is one. Only areas within ten to fifteen miles of the
target city is elegible for this aid, as to the federal Govt.
matching all moneys spent on civil defense; Areas within fifty
miles of the target city, are called Support Areas, and can
receive help o:s support from any of the other places, that do
have the equipment. but those areas cannot ask for the use of
any m oney to purchase their own equipment.
If Riverside is interested in this, Application should be made
at once. If not interested now, place application for 1953.
Making an estimate, as the federal funds are based on budgets
This equipment does n of necessarily have to be used in Civil
Defense, but in case of any emergency. General Thrasher sugg-
ested it be used often.
