On April 14, 2004. Officer Raymond Nunez, of the City, Kansas Police Department was
dispatched on an attempted suicide call on I-635 over the Missouri River. It was not
known until they arrived whether this was on the Kansas or Missouri side of the river.
On arrival, they observed a male subject with one leg over the railing, with his body
hanging out over the river. Riverside Public Safety Officers, Brent Holland and Tony
Dougherty and a Missouri Highway Patrol Trooper (Sgt. Meyer) were also present.
Although this situation was taking place in Missouri, Officer Nunez did not hesitate to
assist. As the trooper positioned himself to distract the subject, Officers Nunez, Holland
and Dougherty got behind the subject and grabbed him, pulling him back onto the bridge
to safety where he was handcuffed.
