HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-01-21 Park Board Minutes0 RIVERSIDE PARKS AND RECREATION JANUARY 21, 1988 7.30 P . M. A regular meeting of the Park Board met at 7:30 p. m., at Riverside City Hall. Those present were Chairman Zimmerman, Cary Brenner and Verla Best. It was decided to proceed with obtaining bids to construct a entrance and parking area for the Renner Park. Bid details will be drawn and shown to the council for approval before bids go out. The park board decided on a finish target date of about June 1, 1988. '" Brenner explained how for~oa were to be completed for council approval when requesting money expenditure for the. Park Dept. from the city council. Brenner also requested the park boards approval to submit a proposal to the city council to conduct a archaeological excavation, in conjunction with Maple Woods Community College, on the Renner Park. The purpose would be to carefully remove the berm of earth created by years of improper .plowing along ~~ Vivion Road and to recover any artifacts.. It would also gA~is Mp the park easier to be seen from Vivion Road. This berm, approximately 175' long and 2' wide would be removed to a depth level with the aurronding property. The dirt .removed would be used to fill in low spots on the park. The Park Board had previously considered a road grader for this purpose, but agreed this was a more reasonable alternative in keeping with the parka historic significance. The excavation would take place from Sept.-Dec. 1988. Playground equipment was discussed for the Homestead Park. Verla Best suggested three semi-circle type "monkey-bars". This would be placed on the west aide of the slide-tower assembly. This would be the last piece of major equipment for this park. Chairman Zimmerman said she would call the company for exact charges and details. It was decided to complete a expenditure form for council approval after the coat was obtained. Other minor equipment was also discussed. The Renner monument dedication was tentativelyscheduled For June-after the parking area is completed. Future park plans were discussed such as; 1. a shelter house for Renner, 2.lignting for the monument and future parking area, 3. grassseed and flowers for the monument, 4. four more trees at the Homestead park, 5. more tree clearing at Renner, 6. a jogging d trail for Renner, 7. tennis courts someplace in the City Hsll area with pay metered lighting.
