BOX 9135 4500 HIGH DRIVE RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI 64168 816-741-3993 or 816-741-1191 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the State of Missouri has designated 21 as the legal age for drinking; and WHEREAS, the average age for use of alcohol is 12 years, and at that age adolescents can become alcoholics in six months to two years' time; and WHEREAS, adolescent bodies and minds are still developing and alcohol impairs judgment, reflexes, coordination, and the healthy development of our youth; and WHEREAS, the leading cause of death in teenagers is drinking and driving and the fact that the prevalent use of alcohol by our youth is a major concern to all Clay and Platte Countians; and WHEREAS, the responsibility for prevention of alcohol abuse among our youth belongs to the entire community, including the parents, schools, churches, work places and other community and public organizations; THEREFORE, be it resolved that we join with the Juvenile Affairs Committee of the Northland Citizens Crusade Council to implement a pro- gram in the Northland for the purpose of publicizing- the penalties for teenage drinking; to encourage the enforcement of laws associated with the use of alcohol by our youth; and reaffirm our commitment to the youth of our community to aid their development and maturation into healthy, responsible and contributing members of our community.
