AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, TO EMPLOY JOHN
FISHER AS AFULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER/EMT IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
AND ESTABLISHING A SALARY AND START DATE FOR SUCH EMPLOYEE
WHEREAS, City Code Section 110.070 provides for the appointment of employees of the
City by the City Administrator with approval of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen; and
WHEREAS, City Code Section 110.140 provides for the establishment of the salary of non-
elected employees of the City by ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen find it is in the best interest of the City to approve the
appointment of John Fisher as a Firefighter/EMT in the Department of Public Safety as provided
herein;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY
OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1 -HIRING OF EMPLOYEE. John Fisher is hereby employed as a Full-Time
Firefighter/EMT in the Department of Public Safety.
SECTION 2 -STARTING SALARY. The starting salary for this position shall be set at
$37,650 per year and the employee shall be placed on a one-year work test period. The salary
shall thereafter be adjusted according to the annual budget and the personnel policies and
procedures of the City as may be adopted from time to time.
SECTION 3 -REPEAL OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT. All ordinances or parts of
ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4 - SEVERABILITY CLAUSE. The provisions of this ordinance are severable and if any
provision hereof is declared invalid, unconstitutional or unenforceable, such determination shall not affect
the validity of the remainder of this ordinance.

BACKGROUND:
The Department of Public Safety has 2 openings for a full time firefighter/emt. These positions
are part of process to build our full-time fire division approved with the organizational study and present
budget. Firefighters must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; the ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors; the
ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions and to demonstrate
good work ethics. Great care is taken to ensure selected candidates meet Department standards and
possess the ability for growth. We believe that we have found that person in Mr. John Fisher.
Mr. Fisher graduated from Blue River Community College's Fire Academy with Firefighter 1 &
2, Haz-materials and EMT. In addition Mr. Fisher holds a BA in Criminal Justice from Missouri Western
State University. He is currently employed with the Corrections Corporation of American at their facility
in Lansing KS. Mr. Fisher is anxious to be a part of the Riverside team and he understands the importance
of the position he is applying for.
BUDGETARY IMPACT:
The starting salary for Mr. Fisher will be that of an entry level firefighter in "range F",
$37,650 annually.
