HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999 - 17 - No MotionBill No. ~ ~'-,. , ;,, ~.~~ /4~~ l~ ~~ Ordinance No. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, MISSOURI ADOPTING A TRUANCY POLICY FOR THE CITY WHEREAS, due to the opening of a new high school within the city limits of Riverside, Missouri, the Board of Aldermen has determined it is in the public interest to adopt a truancy policy for the city. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Riverside, Missouri as follows: Section 1. The City Code of Riverside, Missouri is hereby amended by adding a new Section 210.425 to read as follows: Section 210.425. Mandatory school attendance for children ages five to sixteen. (a) No person under the 2ge of sixteen (16) years shall be upon or about public streets, public places of amusement and entertainment within the city during the hours when said person is required to be in attendance at either a public, private, parochial, or home school as required by state law. (b) It shall be unlawful for a person to encourage or assist a student not to attend or return to school unless said absence is excused by a school official or such excused absence is recognized liy law. (c) Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of school children who violate this section will be given a warning on the first violation, a fifty dollar ($50.00) fine on the second violation, and a one hundred ($100.00) fine on each subsequent violation. (d) Students who violate this mandatory school attendance will be identified and the proper school officials and the parent or legal guardian of the student shall be notified and summoned to court for a hearing on the matter. (e) This section is in no way intended to replace any truancy supervision by the school districts, private schools, parochial schools or any other school recognized by law. ::ODMA\ W ORI~DO?N:\61492\00002`,V S V 8683.
