HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-11-04 Park Board Minutes RIVERSIDE PARK BOARD MEETING MINUTES November 4, 2009 6:00 p.m. The Riverside Park Board held their regularly scheduled meeting at Riverside City Hall, 2950 NW Vivion Road, Riverside Missouri 64150, on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. Those in attendance were: Julie Rule, Deborah Leader, Norma Parrot, Terri Dwyer, Ron Carlson, Alderman Mike Fuller, Mayor Kathy Rose, Meredith Hauck, Coordinator of Communication and External Affairs, Tom Wooddell, Director of Public Works, Mike Duffy, Director of Community Development, and Sarah Wagner, Community Development. Not in attendance was Jim Frakes. Approval of Terri Dwyer commented that her name was misspelled. minutes from September 2, Terri Dwyer made a motion to approve the minutes of September 2, 2009 as corrected. 2009 Ron Carlson seconded and the motion passed. RennerMike Duffy updated the Park Board on the progress of the improvements to Renner Brenner Brenner Park Park. He explained that the old playground equipment has been removed and that the Updatecontractor is working on the extension of the parking lot. The City is still waiting for the archeologist to get a computerized model for where the post holes for some of the equipment will be going. Most of the equipment will be surface mounted, but some of the items will require them to be set into the ground. The contractor is ready to proceed as soon as we get that information. The Board of Aldermen has approved the archeologist to do further work on the artifacts recovered from the park. They will all be cleaned and categorized. Master Plan Mike Duffy gave an update on the Master Planning process. He explained that the last Master UpdatePlan was completed in 2006. Many of the projects that were identified have already been accomplished. Sixty-five percent of the projects have been completed or are underway. The remaining projects need to be revisited to see if they still fit into the plan. The first community th meeting was held on October 19 with about 60-70 people from the community attending. The key areas of focus are what does downtown mean, sustainability, protecting the water in the river and streams, and the Horizon’s area. The last plan had Horizons as an industrial park because that was the safe choice, but the community has said that they would like to see something different there. The next community meeting will be held sometime in January and the process with take us into next summer. Public Works Tom Wooddell was introduced as the new Director of Public Works. He updated the board on what the department has been working on. The Board agreed unanimously to move the old equipment to Homestead Park. Missouri Captain Mike Costanzo gave a presentation to the Board concerning the safety elements that Riverfront have been put on the trail. He explained that there will be signs that will help emergency Trail Safety personnel know your location on the trail as well as solar powered emergency phones. Committee 2010 Meredith Hauck passed out the 2010 Recreational Calendar to show the Board what events are Recreation scheduled for the parks and community center for 2010.
